AL Maritime is a business unit within GM&T (Global Markets & Technologies). The activity is articulated around four main businesses: Global Helium, Global Rare Gases, Offshore Energies and Maritime Cryogenic Supply. It is a very international environment, managing multiple locations worldwide.


As part of AL Maritime, Cryogenic Tank Services (CTS) is a Malaysian entity which was acquired in 2015. CTS specializes in cryogenic tank and equipment rental for the offshore and maritime industries as well as in cryogenic transport of molecules, and provides a full range of repair and testing services.

The Lead Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of process equipment packages, managing all phases of project execution - from concept and feasibility to detailed design, fabrication, and final delivery. This role ensures compliance with technical specifications, industry standards, project schedules, and budgets. Serving as a key coordinator, the Lead Design Engineer works closely with cross-functional teams, clients, and external vendors to align efforts and maintain design quality throughout the project lifecycle. They provide technical oversight, resolve design challenges, and ensure seamless collaboration to drive the successful and timely completion of projects.

How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

  • Develop 3D modelling, detailed piping layouts and isometric drawings using AutoCAD Plant 3D.

  • Develop package layouts to meet the space allocations.

  • Review and understand various technical information from the client.

  • Oversee the design and development of process equipment packages, ensuring alignment with client requirements and industry standards.

  • Lead and mentor design engineers, promoting a collaborative environment and encouraging continuous learning and improvement.

  • Provide clear guidelines and ensure team members understand project objectives, technical requirements, and best practices

  • Assign tasks and manage workloads to meet project deadlines, setting clear priorities to ensure an even distribution of work.

  • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and support professional development by identifying growth opportunities.

  • Represent Air Liquide in front of clients, vendors and any other stakeholders for process engineering related activities independently.

  • Contribute to the safe, reliable and optimized piping design of all membrane systems supplied by ALATUS.

  • Contribute to the business development activities by supporting the sales team as needed.

  • Ensure mechanical engineering designs meet technical specifications, industry codes, and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ANSI).

  • Review and approve design calculations, technical drawings, and specifications.

  • Ensure equipment packages are designed with safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness in mind.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including process engineers, electrical engineers, and procurement, to ensure cohesive project execution.

  • Identify and mitigate risks related to design changes, equipment selection, or other factors that could impact project costs.

  • Participate in the procurement process by evaluating vendor bids, reviewing technical specifications, and approving equipment purchases.

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes affecting the design of process equipment.

  • Ensure adherence to internal company standards and procedures.

  • Drive process improvements within the team to enhance efficiency, quality, and innovation.

  • Identify opportunities for technological advancements or improvements in equipment design and implementation.

  • Continuous improvement and cost optimization of the existing designs to ensure competitiveness of Air Liquide in the membrane businesses,

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

  • 10+ years of experience in piping design and engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership or supervisory role.

  • Strong proficiency in piping design software, specifically AutoCAD Plant 3D and CAESAR II (preference will be given to candidates with experience in these tools).

  • In-depth knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.3, ASME Sec VIII, ISO) and their application to piping systems.

  • Strong knowledge of and experience in process engineering activities is preferred.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with internal teams, clients, and external vendors.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with Oil& Gas, Biogas, Hydrogen or environmental process systems.

  • Hands-on experience with the design and implementation of process equipment packages, particularly in industries such as oil and gas, chemical processing, or renewable energy.

  • Familiarity with 3D modeling software and tools, such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, SolidWorks, or similar platforms.

  • Practical knowledge of stress analysis tools like CAESAR II for piping systems.

  • Exposure to fabrication and installation processes, including troubleshooting during manufacturing and commissioning stages.
