System and Security Engineer Job Purpose: The Senior Security, System, and Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for designing, managing, securing, and optimizing MY Evolution’s IT infrastructure and systems. This senior-level role ensures high availability, performance, and security of critical infrastructure, supports disaster recovery plans, and maintains compliance with ITIL standards and ISO 27001. The engineer also focuses on automation, monitoring, and administration, ensuring seamless integration across systems and networks. Key Responsibilities Infrastructure and System Administration • Install, configure, and maintain operating systems (Linux and Windows) on virtual machines and physical servers. • Manage virtualization platforms, including Xen Citrix, ensuring scalability and performance. • Administer and monitor storage systems (SAN/NAS) and backups, including snapshots and disaster recovery plans (DRPs). • Optimize and maintain cloud and hybrid infrastructure environments. • Oversee OS patching, updates, and configuration management to ensure compliance and reliability. • Troubleshoot and resolve system performance issues, ensuring high availability and minimal downtime. Network and Security Management • Implement and maintain network security measures, including VPNs, firewalls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems. • Monitor network performance and security using tools like Nagios, Grafana, and SIEM platforms. • Perform vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and threat analysis, ensuring ISO 27001 compliance. • Develop and test incident response plans to handle breaches or outages effectively. Database Administration • Manage database backups, updates, and restoration processes. • Monitor database performance and handle basic troubleshooting. • Maintain database documentation, configurations, and disaster recovery strategies. Automation and Optimization • Automate infrastructure and security tasks using scripting languages (Bash, Python) and configuration management tools (Ansible). • Implement proactive monitoring and alerting systems to detect issues before they impact operations. • Optimize system resources and network configurations to maximize efficiency and scalability. Compliance and Documentation • Ensure compliance with ITIL processes and ISO 27001 standards through regular audits and reviews. • Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, system processes, and troubleshooting procedures. • Generate reports for security incidents, audits, and performance metrics. Collaboration and Support • Work closely with network engineers, developers, and IoT teams to deliver integrated solutions. • Provide training and support to internal teams on infrastructure, security, and compliance procedures. • Collaborate with external vendors and partners for specialized solutions and assessments. Requirements Education & Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or related field. • 5+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, system engineering, or security roles. • Proven experience working in the UK or delivering projects for UK-based companies, including compliance with UK standards. • Proven experience in Telecommunication industry Technical Skills • Proficiency in Linux and Windows systems administration, including patching and security hardening. • Hands-on experience with virtualization platforms (e.g., Xen Citrix). • Expertise in security tools and monitoring platforms (e.g., Nagios, Grafana, SIEM). • Knowledge of firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and endpoint protection systems. • Familiarity with scripting languages (Bash, Python) and automation tools (Ansible). • Strong understanding of networking protocols (OSPF, BGP, VLANs) and network performance optimization. • Experience with storage and backup solutions (SAN, NAS) and disaster recovery planning (DRP). • Knowledge of ITIL and ISO 27001 standards, including audit and compliance processes.
