1.0 PURPOSE
- The Shift Technician is a hands-on role responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical machines with integrated electrical controls and pneumatic systems during their assigned shift. The technician will work closely with production teams to ensure machines are operating at optimal efficiency, respond to breakdowns promptly, and perform routine preventive maintenance tasks.
- This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced production environment.
2.0 REPORTING
- The Shift Technician reports to the Maintenance Supervisor / Maintenance Engineer / Plant Manager, Malaysia.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Troubleshooting and Repair
- Mechanical and Electrical Troubleshooting:
- Identify, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues during production.
· Electrical Controls and Pneumatics:
- Handle repairs and maintenance of control systems (PLCs, sensors, relays) and pneumatic components (valves, actuators, air compressors).
· Emergency Breakdown Response:
- Respond immediately to equipment breakdowns during shifts, ensuring quick resolution to minimize production downtime.
· Root Cause Analysis:
- Perform root cause analysis of recurring breakdowns and report issues to the maintenance engineer for long-term fixes.
2. Preventive Maintenance
· Execute Preventive Maintenance Tasks:
- Carry out preventive maintenance on machinery as per schedules to minimize unplanned downtime.
· Inspection and Lubrication:
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment, checking for wear, tear, and any potential issues. Perform lubrication, cleaning, and adjustments as needed.
· Maintenance Records:
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, including repairs, parts replaced, and preventive tasks completed.
3. Collaboration with Production Teams
· Work Closely with Operators:
- Assist machine operators with technical guidance during production to ensure smooth operation of equipment.
·Shift Handover:
- Provide detailed handovers at the start and end of each shift to ensure continuity in machine operation and maintenance activities.
4. Spare Parts and Inventory Management
- Monitor Spare Parts Usage:
- Track the usage of spare parts during repairs and update records to ensure sufficient stock levels.
· Order Parts When Needed:
- Report any low inventory levels to the Maintenance Engineer or Supervisor for replenishment.
5. Safety and Compliance
- Adhere to Safety Protocols: Follow all safety protocols, including Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures during maintenance work.
Perform Safety Checks:
- Conduct safety inspections on equipment to ensure machines are operating safely and report any hazards or unsafe conditions.
·Compliance:
- Ensure all work complies with OSHA or local safety regulations and internal safety guidelines.
6. Documentation and Reporting
·Shift Reports:
- Prepare shift maintenance reports detailing any issues encountered, repairs performed, and machine downtime.
· Support Continuous Improvement:
- Identify recurring issues and work with the maintenance team to suggest improvements in processes, equipment design, or maintenance schedules.
4.0 MAIN TASKS
- ·The Shift Technician is responsible for hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical machines, electrical controls, and pneumatic systems.
- Key tasks include:
- Responding to Equipment Breakdowns: Addressing and resolving mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues promptly to minimize downtime.
- Executing Preventive Maintenance: Performing scheduled maintenance tasks and inspections to ensure optimal equipment performance.
- Collaborating with Production Teams: Working closely with operators to provide technical guidance and ensure smooth equipment operation.
- Managing Spare Parts Inventory: Tracking spare parts usage manually, ordering replacements, and maintaining sufficient stock levels.
- Documentation: Using spreadsheets, logbooks, or basic task management tools to record maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and parts used.
- Adhering to Safety Protocols: Following safety procedures and conducting regular safety checks on equipment to ensure compliance with regulations.
5.0 PROFILE
- Minimum with Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent field.
- Minimum with 2-4 years of hands-on experience in equipment maintenance, especially with mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Familiarity with troubleshooting PLCs, sensors, electrical wiring, and pneumatic systems.
- Strong hands-on experience in maintaining mechanical machines, electrical controls, and pneumatic systems.
- Experience in machineries troubleshooting and diagnostics. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical failures, using diagnostic tools and techniques to identify and resolve issues with machinery and systems.
- Ability to diagnose and solve mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues quickly.
- Mechanical Systems Knowledge: Understanding how mechanical systems operate, including knowledge of gears, pulleys, levers, rotational machine/bearings/shafts.
- Roller Maintenance: Knowledge of roller press systems for paper machines and the proper techniques for roller repair and replacement. This includes checking for wear and ensuring smooth paper production.
- Web Handling: Familiarity with web guiding systems and ensuring the paper sheet stays aligned throughout the production process.
- Slitting and Rewinding Equipment: Experience with slitting and rewinding machines used in cutting and packaging finished paper rolls.
- Good safety awareness on rotational operating machines.
- Experience executing preventive maintenance programs.
- Experience in reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints and technical drawings.
- Good communication skills for shift handovers and collaborating with production teams.
- Able to perform shift work, Sunday, and Public Holiday.
- Physical Requirements:Ability to work on your feet for extended periods and lift heavy components.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces or at heights when needed.
- Must be able to work in varying environmental conditions (e.g., noisy, dusty).
