WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH You will be based either in Pusat Rehabilitasi PERKESO, Perak working closely with our Optometry and Integrated Healthcare Team WHAT YOU’LL DO Comprehensive Eye Examinations: • Lead the implementation of detailed eye exams, ensuring high standards of care across the rehabilitation team. Oversee assessments of visual acuity using advanced diagnostic tools and methods, such as automated refractometers and optical coherence tomography (OCT). Evaluate eye health through detailed slit lamp microscopy, fundoscopic examination, and anterior segment imaging. Provide guidance on managing patients with co-existing medical conditions, such as diabetes or neurological disorders, that impact vision. Prescribe and Dispense Corrective Lenses: • Determine and verify precise prescriptions for glasses or contact lenses tailored to the unique needs of rehabilitation patients, including those with low vision or post-traumatic visual impairments. Provide expert advice on selecting appropriate lenses or frames that accommodate physical or neurological limitations. Dispensing process, ensuring compliance with best practices. Conduct advanced fittings for specialty lenses, such as prism lenses for binocular vision disorders, and address complex patient cases requiring customized solutions. Educate patients and caregivers on the proper use, maintenance, and adjustments of corrective lenses in rehabilitation settings. Identification and Management of Vision Disorders: • Utilize extensive clinical knowledge to recognize and diagnose a broad spectrum of vision disorders encountered in rehabilitation settings, including post-stroke visual impairments, traumatic brain injury-related vision issues, and ocular complications from chronic diseases. Develop and implement comprehensive management plans that include advanced corrective measures, therapeutic interventions, and coordination with other healthcare professionals. Ensure timely referrals for patients with severe or complex conditions to ophthalmologists or specialized rehabilitation services. Contact Lens Fitting and Management: • Perform and supervise detailed contact lens fittings for patients with unique needs, such as those requiring prosthetic lenses, scleral lenses for irregular corneas, or therapeutic lenses for ocular surface diseases. Ensure accurate determination of lens type and size, considering the rehabilitation context. Provide advanced instruction to patients and caregivers on insertion, removal, and hygiene practices, emphasizing adaptations for patients with physical or cognitive challenges. Low Vision Rehabilitation: • Conduct thorough assessments of patients with low vision, utilizing specialized tests and tools to evaluate visual function and remaining visual potential. Develop and oversee individualized rehabilitation plans to enhance patients' quality of life, incorporating adaptive technologies such as electronic magnifiers, screen readers, and wearable devices. Collaborate with multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams, including occupational therapists and physiotherapists, to ensure a holistic approach to vision care. Provide expert advice on the latest low vision aids and strategies, ensuring optimal integration into patients' daily lives. Patient Education: • Deliver comprehensive and tailored educational sessions to rehabilitation patients and their caregivers, focusing on eye health conditions, treatment options, and preventive measures. Lead initiatives to improve patient awareness of visual hygiene practices, including ergonomic adjustments and adaptive strategies for screen use. Discuss lifestyle factors that impact vision, such as diet, exercise, and stress management. Conduct workshops or seminars to educate both patients and staff on managing visual impairments in rehabilitation contexts, emphasizing practical adaptations to enhance daily functioning. Documentation and Record Keeping: • Ensure that patient records are maintained to the highest professional standards, with detailed documentation of examinations, diagnostic findings, prescribed treatments, and follow-up care. Oversee compliance with legal and professional standards in record keeping within the rehabilitation setting. Implement improvements in record management systems to enhance accuracy and efficiency. Participation in Quality Improvement Initiatives: • Lead regular review meetings, provide expert feedback on existing procedures, and drive the implementation of new protocols. Develop and oversee quality improvement projects, such as streamlining patient workflows or integrating new technologies to improve patient outcomes. Collaborate with other departments to ensure a seamless and patient-centered approach to care. Other Duties as Assigned: • Perform additional tasks as directed by senior management, adapting to the evolving needs of the rehabilitation center and its patients. REQUIRED QUALITIES: Bachelor's degree in Optometry. Valid registration with Malaysian Optical Council Fresh graduate are encouraged to apply Proficient in conducting comprehensive eye examinations and vision assessments. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Detail-oriented with excellent record-keeping skills. MINIMUM BASIC SALARY RM2,500
