Role Overview
The Junior Geophysicist will assist in the planning, acquisition, processing, and interpretation of geophysical data for various offshore and nearshore survey projects. This is an entry-level role, making it an excellent opportunity for fresh graduates or early-career professionals to gain hands-on experience and develop their expertise in marine geophysics.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the acquisition and processing of geophysical data using equipment such as Side Scan Sonar (SSS), Sub-bottom Profilers (SBP), Magnetometers, and Multibeam Echo Sounders (MBES).
- Support senior geophysicists in data interpretation and report preparation.
- Perform quality control checks on acquired geophysical data to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Assist with the mobilization and demobilization of geophysical survey equipment on vessels or other platforms.
- Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting of geophysical equipment under supervision.
- Contribute to the preparation of survey deliverables, including charts, maps, and technical reports.
- Ensure compliance with company and industry safety standards during field operations.
- Stay updated on advancements in geophysical survey techniques, equipment, and software.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics, Geology, Marine Science, or a related field.
- Fresh graduates or candidates with up to 2 years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
- Willing to work in office and offshore
Technical Skills:
- Basic understanding of geophysical survey methods and equipment (e.g., SSS, SBP, Magnetometers).
- Familiarity with geophysical data processing software (e.g., SonarWiz, Oasis Montaj, or similar) is an advantage.
- Knowledge of geodesy, seafloor morphology, and sub-surface geology is a plus.
Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Eagerness to learn and develop technical expertise in marine geophysics.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel and work offshore for extended periods.
