Job Description:
As a provider of nursing care, the OT Staff Nurse formulates and maintain individualized nursing care plans where possible:
- Assessing and evaluating patient pre- and post-surgery or procedure
- Collects and contributes to a database (physiological, emotional, sociological, cultural, psychological and spiritual needs) from available resources (e.g. patient, family, doctor’s notes and others).
- Identifies and documents changes in health status which interferes with surgery or procedure (e.g. oxygen, nutrition, elimination, activity, safety)
- Develops individualized nursing care plans for surgery based upon the problem list and plan intervention that follows established nursing protocols (e.g. Clinical Pathways).
- Identifies criteria for evaluation of individualized care plans in conjunction with surgeon or doctor’s treatment orders.
- Providing surgical patients with perioperative care in prep room, procedure, and operating rooms.
- Providing post-surgical care for patients in recovery room until deemed safe for discharge
- Stocking operating rooms with sterile surgical equipment, linens, and supplies, maintaining good inventory levels and practicing First in First out principle.
- Consignment items to tally and in good order.
- Developing and implementing nursing care plans for surgical patients.
- Preparing patients for surgery by cleaning and disinfecting areas to be operated on.
- In charge of disinfecting, sanitizing and cleaning of Operating Rooms at start of day, in between patients, at end of day and when it’s necessary according to guidelines and protocols.
- Assisting surgeons during surgical procedures.
- Applying sterile techniques in handling medical instruments and equipment pre, during, and post-surgery.
- Collaborating with surgical teams and other medical professionals on patient medication and post-surgery care.

- Assessing and evaluating patient pre and post procedure
- Collects and contributes to a database (physiological, emotional, sociological, cultural, psychological and spiritual needs) from available resources (eg. patient, family, doctor’s notes and others).
- Identifies and documents changes in health status which interferes with procedure (e.g. oxygen, nutrition, elimination, activity, safety)
- Identifies criteria for evaluation of individualized care plans in conjunction with surgeon or doctor’s treatment orders.
- Providing patients with perioperative care in prep room, procedure, and recovery rooms.

- Assisting doctors for sedation of patients and monitoring vital signs and patient status at all times.
- Good working knowledge and competent in cleaning and disinfecting the scope and maintenance and drying of scopes.
- Infection control to be observed at all times including culture swab of scopes for strict cleaning procedures.
- Wears appropriate PPE for procedures and when cleaning and disinfecting of scopes
- Updating patient files and medical records confidentially and timely. All records to be updated before 24 hours post-surgery or procedure.
- Assisting with the ordering, maintenance, and safe storage of surgical equipment and supplies without over ordering.
- Providing patients with post-surgery care instructions and answering questions.
- Provides patients with a copy of scope results after verifying with the doctor.
Qualification:
- Diploma / bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of nursing working experience in Operating Theatre / Endoscopy.
- Must possess Post Basic Qualification in the related area
- State Registered Nurse with Malaysia Nursing Board and possess valid Annual Practicing Certificate
- Willing to work in JOHOR BAHRU.
