This position acts a legal advisor to the procurement organization supporting sourcing functions within HP’s Enterprise Operations organizations. Successful candidates have good abilities to spot actual risk and recommend solutions that are pragmatic and scalable to HP’s global operations. The position requires one to represents HP in transactions, interactions, or disputes with customers, suppliers, partners, and competitors while balancing the business interests of client groups with ultimate fiduciary responsibility to HP. A general background in contract law and procurement practice is highly desirable. The position may require representing HP to outside professional organizations and regulators and will require strong cross-company coordination with your colleagues within Legal. The ability to train and empower clients will be a focus.

This position applies advanced subject matter knowledge to solve complex business issues and is regarded as a subject matter expert. Frequently contributes to the development of new ideas and methods. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors. Leads and/or provides expertise to functional project teams and may participate in cross-functional initiatives. Acts as an expert providing direction and guidance to process improvements and establishing policies. Frequently represents the organization to external customers/clients. Exercises significant independent judgment within broadly defined policies and practices to determine best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives. May provide mentoring and guidance and training to employees at all levels in our client organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Develops legal strategies and identifies potential legal risks in the area of procurement by HP’s Enterprise Operations group.
  • Provides legal subject matter expertise in one or more areas among contracting, sourcing, handling of confidential information, outsourced manufacturing, the buying and selling of product components, and software licensing.
  • Develops new ideas and methods to effectively address recurring legal issues or matters facing multiple client organizations. This includes client training and reinforcement and coaching on negotiation strategies for legal issues.
  • Supports in provision of institutional knowledge, support, and fiduciary oversight in relation to corporate and local governance standards, policies, process, and reporting requirements.
  • Monitors evolving regulatory landscapes and industry trends to ensure the organization's adherence to changing legal requirements.
  • Represents the organization before industry policy setting organizations, government agencies and other regulatory bodies.
  • Contributes to complex multidimensional projects or transactions by identifying and resolving complex legal issues requiring in-depth knowledge and judgment within the area of Enterprise Operations.
  • Applies advanced subject matter knowledge, and exercises independent judgment in resolving business issues and establishing policies.
  • Mentors team members, providing guidance, sharing knowledge, and fostering professional growth and works well and with agility and fluidity in meeting customer demands for empowering and direct legal advice.

Education and Experience Required

  • Four-year or Graduate Degree in Law, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.
  • Typically has 7-10 years of work experience, preferably in commercial, general or specialty law, or a related field.

Preferred Certifications

  • State Bar Membership and/or the ability to practice law for a corporate client within the jurisdiction of residence.
