What you’ll be doing:
In this high-impact role, you’ll be part of the senior leadership team, working directly with top decision-makers to shape the university’s financial direction and long-term sustainability. Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and execute financial strategies and long-term planning that support the university’s growth while balancing operational efficiency.
- Oversee financial reporting, ensuring full compliance with Malaysian financial regulations, IFRS, and university policies. Lead audit preparation and address findings with effective solutions.
- Lead the budget preparation process, forecast performance, and monitor outcomes. Ensure proactive management of variances to meet financial objectives.
- Manage cash reserves, investment portfolios, and banking relationships to maximize returns and ensure financial stability.
- Develop strategies to improve cost efficiencies, including contract negotiations and vendor management to drive savings and value for the university.
- Mitigate risks, enforce robust internal controls, and continuously improve financial processes to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of finance and accounting professionals to achieve excellence in service delivery and continuous improvement.
- Partner with academic, administrative, and external stakeholders, including banks, auditors, and regulatory bodies, to ensure effective financial planning and reporting.
What we are looking for:
This role is ideal for someone with extensive experience in financial management who is now seeking a meaningful, high-level role with a new sense of purpose. We’re looking for candidates who have:
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. CPA, ACCA, or an equivalent professional certification is required.
- A minimum of 7 years in senior financial leadership roles, preferably in medium to large organizations. Prior exposure to diverse industries will be beneficial.
- Experience in developing and executing financial strategies and managing large-scale budgets.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, compliance requirements, budgeting, taxation, and cash management.
- Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
- A proactive approach to identifying challenges and delivering solutions that drive business outcomes.
- Previous experience in the education or research is an added advantage.
