Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Lab Technician in Civil/Mechanical Engineering to support our academic and research activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in laboratory procedures, materials testing, and data analysis related to civil engineering projects. This position involves maintaining lab equipment, conducting tests, and assisting faculty and students in research initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Laboratory Operations: Oversee the daily operations of the civil engineering laboratory, ensuring a safe and organized environment for testing and research activities.
- Testing and Analysis: Conduct various tests on construction materials (e.g., soil, concrete, asphalt) following standardized procedures and protocols.
- Equipment Maintenance: Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instruments to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
- Data Management: Record, analyze, and report test results; prepare detailed reports and presentations for faculty and students.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols, including the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Support and Training: Assist faculty and students with laboratory procedures and provide training on equipment and testing methodologies.
- Inventory Management: Manage laboratory inventory, including ordering supplies and maintaining stock levels for materials and equipment.
- Research Assistance: Support faculty and students in ongoing research projects, including data collection, sample preparation, and literature reviews.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Materials Science, or a related field. A Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in a civil engineering laboratory setting is highly desirable, with hands-on experience in materials testing.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in laboratory equipment and testing methods related to civil engineering materials, including but not limited to concrete compression testing, soil analysis, and asphalt testing.
- Attention to Detail: Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail to ensure accurate testing and reporting.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and resolve challenges that may arise during testing processes.
