Location: Tioman Island, Pahang
Job Description:
We are seeking a responsible and experienced Boat Captain to operate and maintain our passenger boat, ensuring safe and efficient transfers between Tg Gemok Jetty, Japamala Resort, and various jetties in Tioman Island. Additionally, the Boat Captain will be responsible for operating boat excursions, including snorkelling trips and island tours, as well as daily maintenance and cleaning of the vessels. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge, excellent guest service skills, and a commitment to safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely steer and operate the passenger boat between Tg Gemok Jetty, Japamala Resort, and other designated jetties in Tioman, such as Genting, Paya, and Tekek.
- Conduct boat excursions, including snorkelling trips and island tours, ensuring guest safety and enjoyment.
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and servicing of the boat and docking areas.
- Report any damages or defects to the Senior Boat Captain and Operations Manager immediately.
- React swiftly and effectively in emergency situations, making minor or emergency repairs as needed.
- Maintain all onboard equipment, including engines, navigational systems, fire extinguishers, snorkelling gear, and life preservers.
- Keep detailed records of daily activities, including boat operations, maintenance logs, and excursion schedules.
- Raise purchase requisitions of necessary supplies, spare or replacement parts and monitor diesel/petrol stock levels.
- Ensure the upkeep and cleanliness of the resort jetty and storage areas.
- Provide a warm welcome to guests, ensuring their comfort and safety during transfers and excursions.
- Conduct safety briefings before each departure/boat trip/transfer, including snorkelling safety instructions.
- Assist with luggage and cargo service, including handling luggage from the jetty to the boat and transferring it to assigned guest rooms as necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness of the boat, snorkelling equipment, luggage trolley, and surrounding areas.
- Present a professional image with proper grooming, hygiene, and prescribed uniform.
- Adhere to boat schedules and duty rosters set by the Operations Manager.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Senior boat captain and Operations Manager.
Requirements:
- License: Mate of Less Than 500GT Domestic Trade Voyages (with ROC).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
- Experience in conducting snorkelling trips and knowledge of snorkelling safety procedures preferred.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings and emergency late-night transfers.
- Basic technical expertise in boat operations and engine maintenance.
- Ability to work on weekends and public holidays.
- Physically capable of lifting up to 23 kg (50 lbs) and handling medium to large weights/objects.
- Must have valid work authorization.
