Category Buyer
Job Summary:
As a Category Buyer, you will be responsible for overseeing the procurement activities within a designated category. This includes supplier selection, negotiation, managing the supply chain, and ensuring that purchased products align with company goals for quality, cost, and delivery. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including sales, marketing, finance, and logistics.
Key Responsibilities:
Category Strategy Development
Analyze market trends, customer preferences, and competitor activities.
Forecast demand and develop category strategies to drive growth.
Monitor sales trends, product performance, and customer feedback.
Supplier Management
Negotiate favorable terms (pricing, payment, delivery) and maintain strong supplier relationships.
Collaborate on promotions, product launches, and inventory support.
Create POs and ensure cost-effective procurement.
Inventory Management
Monitor stock levels, optimize inventory, and prevent overstocking or stockouts.Improve forecasting accuracy and resolve slow-moving inventory issues.
Vendor Performance & Compliance
Monitor vendor KPIs (quality, delivery, compliance) and drive improvements
Ensure adherence to regulatory and ethical standards.
Sales & Financial Reporting
Analyze category performance (sales, margins) and prepare financial reports.
Collaborate with finance for budgeting and cost control.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work with marketing, merchandising, supply chain, and finance teams to align strategies and achieve business goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Procurement, or related field (preferred).
- 3+ years of experience in purchasing or category management, preferably in [Industry].
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- In-depth knowledge of supply chain processes, inventory management, and procurement strategies.
- Experience with procurement software/tools (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
