About the role

We are seeking an experienced Application Support Engineer to join our dynamic team at HCL Technologies Malaysia SDN BHD. In this full-time role based in Kuala Lumpur, The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, and ensuring the smooth functioning of applications hosted on Tomcat and other servers. The role requires strong expertise in UNIX/Linux, Shell Scripting, and PL/SQL, along with the ability to diagnose and resolve production issues effectively.

What you'll be doing

  • Monitor and ensure the availability of applications running on Tomcat and other servers.
  • Perform health checks, restart services, and troubleshoot issues related to Tomcat and other web/application servers.
  • Develop and maintain Shell Scripts to automate monitoring and support activities.
  • Work with UNIX/Linux environments, handling logs, file system management, and process monitoring.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot database-related issues using PL/SQL.
  • Execute SQL queries, stored procedures, and perform database performance tuning when necessary.
  • Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and database teams to resolve application issues.
  • Respond to incident tickets, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and document resolutions.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and provide 24/7 production support as needed.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance system stability and efficiency.

What we're looking for

  • 3+ years of experience in Application Support or a related role.
  • Strong knowledge of Tomcat application server and its configurations.
  • Proficiency in UNIX/Linux administration and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Shell Scripting to automate operational tasks.
  • Strong hands-on experience with PL/SQL, writing complex queries, debugging, and performance tuning.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools and log analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of incident management and ITIL processes is a plus.
  • Good understanding of networking concepts, web servers, and middleware technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
