VETERINARY ASSISTANT

Job Overview The Veterinary Assistant (Large Animal) provides dedicated support to the veterinarian in delivering care to livestock and other large animals. This role involves assisting the veterinarian during on-site visits, procedures, and treatments, while ensuring animal safety and maintaining a clean, organized environment. This position requires working in farms, stables, and outdoor environments. Key Responsibilities:- 1. Assist the Veterinarian -Safely restrain and handle large animals (e.g., cattle, goats, sheep) during examinations, treatments, and procedures as directed by the veterinarian. -Prepare animals and equipment for medical procedures, including vaccinations, wound care, and surgeries. -Support the veterinarian in administering treatments, collecting samples (e.g., blood, milk, or feces), and performing diagnostic tests. 2. Animal Care & Monitoring -Observe and report changes in animals’ condition or behavior to the veterinarian. -Assist in post-treatment care, including monitoring recovery and ensuring animals are returned safely to their enclosures. -Maintain a calm and professional demeanor while handling large animals, especially those under stress. 3. Equipment & Supplies Management -Prepare and maintain veterinary equipment and tools, ensuring cleanliness and sterilization. -Organize and restock supplies, including medications, syringes, and bandages, for on-site visits or fieldwork. -Operate and maintain larger veterinary equipment such as portable diagnostic tools under veterinarian supervision. 4. Field Support -Assist the veterinarian during farm visits, ensuring the safe handling of animals and efficient setup of equipment in varied environments. -Adapt to working outdoors, sometimes in challenging weather or rural locations. -Help with loading and unloading equipment and animals.
