The specific placement will initially be primarily focused at one of our telecommunication clients for some of their more interesting transformation programs.

About the role:

We are looking for an experienced Transformation Director who has strong expertise in BSS System Implementations and Telco industry to lead a CRM & Billing implementation Project

Job Title: Transformation Director

Level: Project Leadership, C-1

Reporting To: Chief Information Officer (CIO)

Employment Type: Full-Time, Contract

Duration: 2 years

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Onsite presence required)

Tasks & Responsibilities:

a. Project Leadership & Strategy:

  • Lead the end-to-end CRM & Billing implementation project, ensuring alignment with strategic business objectives.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive transformation strategy for the CRM & Billing system, integrating best practices in BSS system implementations within the Telco industry.
  • Establish clear project goals, milestones, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success.

b. Program & Project Management:

  • Oversee planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and risk management for the transformation project.
  • Design robust project governance frameworks to monitor progress, ensure timely delivery, and manage project scope changes
  • Oversee coordination with cross-functional teams including IT, operations, finance, and external vendors to ensure seamless integration and execution.

c. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:

  • Act as the primary point of contact to C-level & senior stakeholders.
  • Oversee and ensure regular project updates/ communications are sent to relevant stakeholders.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external partners to support project objectives and drive successful outcomes.

d. Technical & Industry Expertise:

  • Provide subject matter expertise in BSS system implementations and the Telco industry, guiding technical teams on best practices and emerging trends.
  • Oversee the customization, integration, and deployment of the CRM & Billing system to meet specific business and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to industry standards, compliance regulations, and quality assurance processes throughout the project lifecycle.

e. Migration Strategy:

  • Design migration strategy aligned with best practices, industry standards & emerging technologies while meeting technical & business requirements.
  • Proactively identify risks associated with chosen migration strategy, and devise mitigations accordingly to protect project objectives & ensure minimal customer/ revenue impacts.
  • Oversee migration activities execution, and timely resolve escalated issues (if any).

f. Change Management & Continuous Improvement:

  • Lead organizational change initiatives to drive user adoption and maximize the benefits of the new CRM & Billing system.
  • Develop and implement training programs and knowledge transfer activities to empower staff and ensure operational readiness.
  • Oversee post-implementation performance monitoring and identify opportunities for continuous improvement and system optimization.

g. Risk Mitigation & Issue Resolution:

  • Proactively identify potential risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee escalated issues resolutions, ensuring minimal disruption to project timelines and operational processes.

h. Hiring, coaching & Performance reviews:

  • Work with HR to hire candidates with skills & experience best-suited for project needs.
  • Provide coaching/ training to project team members if required/ to ensure quality project delivery.
  • Handle performance reviews, give timely feedback to project delivery team members for their work improvement and learning.

Qualifications:

a. Experience & Industry Expertise:

  • Proven track record of at least 15 years in project management and transformation initiatives, and at least 10 years in Project/ Program Director position – leading project teams of at least 20 team members
  • At least 5 years of experience specifically in CRM & Billing implementations and BSS system deployments
  • Deep understanding of the Telco industry, including regulatory requirements, operational challenges, and emerging technology trends.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale IT projects and transformation programs in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Prior work experience in Asia is strongly beneficial.
  • Prior work experience with Chinese vendors is strongly beneficial.

b. Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Relevant project management certifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) are highly desirable.

c. Technical & Analytical Skills:

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable strategies.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems, billing platforms, and related telecommunications technologies.

d. Leadership & Communication:

  • Exceptional leadership skills with a proven ability to inspire, motivate, and guide cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of articulating complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Experience in managing stakeholder relationships and negotiating with vendors and external partners.

Other requirements:

  • Ability to work onsite in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and manage a diverse, multi-cultural team.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to drive change in a dynamic and evolving organizational environment.
  • Willingness to commit to a 2-year contract, with potential for extension based on project outcomes.
