Job Overview:

Alam Flora, a leading waste management company in Malaysia, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Risk Management Manager to oversee and manage the company’s comprehensive risk management activities. This role will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks across various aspects of the business, ensuring a proactive approach to risk management while supporting Alam Flora’s operational and strategic objectives. The scope of this role excludes integrity and governance, as those areas are managed by a dedicated department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Risk Assessment & Identification:

Identify, evaluate, and assess potential risks related to operational, financial, environmental, and regulatory factors within the waste management industry. Regularly review and update risk assessments to ensure comprehensive coverage across all areas of the business.

  • Risk Mitigation Strategies:

Develop, implement, and monitor effective risk mitigation strategies and controls to address identified risks. Work closely with key departments to establish preventive measures that align with industry best practices and company policies.

  • Risk Monitoring & Reporting:

Establish systems and processes for continuous monitoring of identified risks. Provide timely reports on risk levels and mitigation efforts to senior management, offering strategic recommendations for risk reduction.

  • Compliance Management:

Ensure Alam Flora complies with all relevant regulations, standards, and industry guidelines in waste management and environmental practices. Keep updated on changes in legislation and best practices related to environmental and safety risks.

  • Cross-Department Collaboration:

Collaborate with other departments such as operations, legal, and finance to assess and address risk factors that affect the company's overall performance. Foster strong relationships across teams to ensure smooth execution of risk management initiatives.

  • Training & Awareness:

Promote risk awareness by conducting training sessions for employees, educating them on risk management processes, the importance of compliance, and how they contribute to reducing potential risks.

  • Crisis Management:

Provide leadership and guidance during crises or risk-related incidents, ensuring that risk mitigation protocols are executed effectively. Develop response plans for unforeseen events and assist in recovery efforts when necessary.

  • Risk Documentation:

Maintain thorough documentation of all risk management activities, including assessments, mitigation strategies, and resolutions. Ensure accurate and accessible records for internal audits and regulatory inspections.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Risk Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Relevant professional certifications such as FRM (Financial Risk Manager), CRM (Certified Risk Manager), or similar certifications are highly regarded.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in risk management, preferably in the waste management or environmental services industry.
  • Strong understanding of risk management frameworks, methodologies, and regulatory requirements specific to the waste management sector.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to identify, assess, and manage complex risks.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing risk mitigation strategies and controls.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with risk management software or tools.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations, safety standards, and sustainability initiatives in waste management.
  • Leadership or mentoring experience within a risk management team.
  • Familiarity with crisis management protocols and disaster recovery planning.
