Job Title: Commis Chef – Coffee House

Location: AnCasa Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Reports To: Demi Chef de Partie / Chef de Partie

Position Overview:

As a Commis Chef in the Coffee House of AnCasa Hotel Kuala Lumpur, you will play a vital role in supporting the kitchen team by assisting in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of food items. Your responsibilities will include maintaining high standards of food quality and hygiene, while learning and developing your culinary skills in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Food Preparation: Assist in the preparation of ingredients and dishes for coffee-based snacks, sandwiches, light meals, pastries, and beverages. Ensure food items are prepared in line with established recipes and hotel standards.
  • Cooking Support: Help in cooking dishes, under supervision, such as breakfast items, salads, sandwiches, and other light meals. Ensure dishes are cooked to perfection and presented according to hotel standards.
  • Kitchen Hygiene: Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and your assigned section, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. Regularly clean kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces.
  • Ingredient Handling: Assist in storing ingredients properly, ensuring proper labeling and rotation of stock to prevent waste. Report any shortages or issues with inventory to the Chef de Partie.
  • Learning & Development: Continuously develop your culinary skills by learning from senior chefs and actively participating in kitchen training sessions. Take on increasing responsibilities and tasks as your skill set improves.
  • Support Senior Chefs: Assist the Demi Chef de Partie and Chef de Partie in day-to-day operations, helping with meal preparation, plating, and ensuring that food is delivered promptly and meets quality standards.
  • Team Collaboration: Work as part of a team, communicating effectively with colleagues to ensure smooth kitchen operations and excellent guest service. Assist in training junior kitchen staff when necessary.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Ensure that all food products meet the high standards of taste, quality, and presentation, contributing to a positive guest experience.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Commis Chef or in a similar entry-level kitchen role is preferred but not essential.
  • Knowledge of food safety practices, basic culinary techniques, and kitchen hygiene.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work efficiently under the supervision of senior chefs.
  • A keen interest in learning about food preparation, coffee-based beverages, and kitchen operations.
  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for quality food and service.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required by the hotel’s operational needs.
  • A culinary qualification or enrolment in a culinary program is a plus, but not required.
