The Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment onboard the vessel. This includes power generation, distribution systems, motors, lighting, and automation systems. The Electrician ensures that all electrical operations comply with safety regulations, classification society standards, and company procedures. Key Responsibilities: Electrical Maintenance & Repairs: - Perform installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems, including switchboards, transformers, motors, and generators. - Conduct routine inspections on electrical components such as circuit breakers, wiring, and relays. - Diagnose and repair faults in control panels, lighting systems, and alarm systems. - Ensure the reliability and safe operation of power distribution systems. Safety & Compliance: - Ensure all electrical work complies with IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, and Class regulations. - Follow permit-to-work (PTW) procedures for electrical maintenance. - Assist in firefighting, emergency response, and safety drills related to electrical failures. - Conduct risk assessments and implement electrical safety measures. Automation & Control Systems: - Assist in maintaining and troubleshooting automation and control systems, PLCs, and engine monitoring systems. - Support the Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) in maintaining Dynamic Positioning (DP) system components (if applicable). - Assist with communication and navigation equipment maintenance, including ECDIS, GMDSS, and radar systems. Power & Energy Management: - Monitor power consumption and load distribution. - Ensure the backup power supply (emergency generator, UPS systems) is functional. - Assist in bunkering operations, ensuring proper electrical safety protocols are followed.
