The Oiler is responsible for assisting the engine room team in maintaining and operating the vessel's machinery. This includes lubricating moving parts, monitoring engine performance, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring the safe operation of all mechanical systems. The Oiler plays a key role in preventive maintenance and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Key Responsibilities: Engine Room Operations & Maintenance: -Perform lubrication of engines, pumps, generators, and other mechanical components. -Assist in monitoring engine parameters, including temperature, pressure, and oil levels. -Conduct routine inspections and report abnormalities to the duty engineer. -Assist in fuel and oil transfers, ensuring proper handling and safety procedures. -Clean and maintain filters, strainers, and machinery parts. Safety & Compliance: -Follow engine room safety procedures and pollution prevention protocols (MARPOL regulations). -Assist in bilge and sludge disposal operations. -Ensure compliance with IMO, SOLAS, ISM Code, and vessel-specific regulations. -Participate in firefighting, emergency response, and engine room safety drills. Repair & Troubleshooting: -Assist engineers in repairing and replacing mechanical components. -Support the troubleshooting of pumps, compressors, purifiers, and hydraulic systems. -Maintain tools and ensure cleanliness and order in the engine room.
