The Crane Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of cranes onboard offshore vessels, platforms, or rigs. This includes lifting, transferring, and positioning cargo, equipment, and personnel while ensuring adherence to safety regulations, weight limits, and operational procedures. The Crane Operator plays a key role in cargo handling, deck operations, and offshore logistics support. Key Responsibilities: Crane Operations & Cargo Handling: - Operate pedestal cranes, knuckle boom cranes, and other lifting equipment as per operational needs. - Perform lifting and hoisting of cargo, containers, pipes, and personnel safely and efficiently. - Ensure load weight, balance, and rigging configurations comply with lifting plans. - Coordinate with deck crew, riggers, and logistics personnel for safe cargo transfers. - Assist in helicopter landing operations when required. Safety & Compliance: - Follow lifting procedures, risk assessments, and safety guidelines (LOLER, OSHA, IMCA, API RP 2D). - Conduct pre-operational checks on cranes and lifting accessories to ensure functionality. - Ensure compliance with Permit-to-Work (PTW) and Toolbox Talks (TBT) before operations. - Monitor weather conditions and assess risks before lifting operations. - Participate in safety drills, emergency response, and incident reporting. Crane & Equipment Maintenance: - Conduct routine inspections, lubrication, and maintenance of cranes. - Report equipment faults, malfunctions, and necessary repairs to the maintenance team. - Assist in troubleshooting hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical crane issues. - Keep records of lifting operations, maintenance logs, and certification validity. Communication & Teamwork: - Communicate effectively with the deck crew, bridge, riggers, and logistics coordinators. - Follow radio communication protocols during lifting operations. - Support deck operations and assist in general offshore logistics when not operating the crane.
