Job Summary: The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall management, maintenance, and operation of the vessel’s engine room, propulsion system, and auxiliary machinery. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and compliant functioning of all engineering operations, including power generation, fuel management, and emergency systems. The Chief Engineer leads the engineering team, ensuring that all planned and corrective maintenance tasks are executed according to safety and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities: - Engineering & Maintenance Management: - Oversee the operation and maintenance of main engines, generators, thrusters, and auxiliary machinery. - Ensure compliance with planned maintenance systems (PMS) for all engineering equipment. - Conduct regular inspections and troubleshooting of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems. - Monitor fuel and lube oil consumption, ensuring efficiency and proper documentation. - Maintain power management and automation systems, ensuring redundancy and safety. Safety & Compliance: - Ensure compliance with IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, and Class regulations. - Implement and enforce permit-to-work (PTW) procedures for maintenance and repairs. - Conduct risk assessments and participate in drills for engine room emergencies (e.g., fire, flooding, or power failure). - Ensure proper management of engine room logs, maintenance records, and technical reports. - Work closely with the DP team to maintain vessel power stability during DP operations. Team Leadership & Training: - Supervise and mentor the 2nd Engineer, 3rd Engineer, and Engine Crew. - Conduct onboard training and competency development for junior engineers and engine ratings. - Maintain strong coordination with the Master, Chief Officer, and Electrical Team to ensure vessel readiness.
