The Able Seaman (AB) is responsible for assisting in deck operations, maintenance, cargo handling, and watchkeeping duties onboard the vessel. The AB ensures that all deck activities are performed safely and efficiently while complying with international maritime regulations and company procedures. Key Responsibilities: Deck Operations & Maintenance: - Assist in mooring, anchoring, and towing operations. - Perform deck maintenance, including painting, chipping, and cleaning. - Assist in launching and recovering lifeboats and rescue boats. - Secure cargo, containers, and deck equipment properly. - Handle ropes, wires, and fenders during port operations. Watchkeeping & Navigation Support: -Stand deck watches and assist the Officer of the Watch (OOW) as required. -Maintain lookout duties during navigation and report hazards. -Steer the vessel when required and follow helm orders accurately. -Monitor navigational lights, signals, and deck conditions. Safety & Emergency Response: -Participate in firefighting, abandon ship, and emergency drills. -Ensure compliance with IMO, SOLAS, and ISM Code safety procedures. -Maintain lifeboats, life rafts, and personal survival equipment. -Follow Permit-to-Work (PTW) and Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) procedures. Cargo Handling & Rigging: -Assist in loading, unloading, and securing cargo. -Operate deck machinery, winches, and cranes under supervision. -Handle lifting gear, shackles, and slings during rigging operations. -Assist in helicopter landing operations (if applicable).
