The 2nd Engineer is responsible for assisting the Chief Engineer in managing the engine room operations, maintenance, and repairs of all onboard machinery. This role involves overseeing diesel engines, generators, propulsion systems, fuel management, and auxiliary systems to ensure the vessel operates efficiently and safely. The 2nd Engineer also supervises junior engineers and engine ratings, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and safety standards. Key Responsibilities: Engineering & Maintenance Operations: - Assist in the operation and maintenance of main and auxiliary engines, generators, thrusters, and boilers. - Supervise planned maintenance systems (PMS) and ensure compliance with the vessel’s maintenance schedule. - Conduct inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. - Monitor engine performance, fuel and lube oil consumption, and equipment efficiency. - Ensure proper power management to maintain vessel stability, especially during DP operations. Safety & Compliance: - Ensure adherence to IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, and Class regulations. - Assist in implementing permit-to-work (PTW) procedures and risk assessments for maintenance tasks. - Conduct safety drills, emergency response procedures, and pollution prevention measures. - Maintain accurate engine room logs, maintenance records, and technical reports.
