The 2nd Officer DPO is responsible for assisting in the safe navigation of the vessel and operating the Dynamic Positioning (DP) system under supervision. This role involves DP watchkeeping, navigational duties, and safety compliance while ensuring the vessel maintains position during offshore operations. The 2nd Officer DPO works closely with the bridge team to support offshore activities, including drilling, subsea construction, or supply operations. Key Responsibilities, Dynamic Positioning (DP) Operations: - Operate and monitor the DP system under the guidance of the SDPO or Chief Officer. - Assist in maintaining accurate station-keeping using DP Class 2 or Class 3 systems. - Perform DP system checks, calibrations, and position reference updates. - Log and report DP operations, equipment performance, and system failures. - Participate in DP emergency drills and assist in troubleshooting. Navigation & Watchkeeping: - Maintain a navigational watch in compliance with STCW and company procedures. - Assist in passage planning, chart corrections, and ECDIS management. - Conduct pre-departure and arrival checks for vessel positioning and navigation safety. - Ensure compliance with IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, and Flag State regulations. Safety & Emergency Procedures: - Act as Officer on Watch (OOW) during bridge shifts. - Participate in safety drills, risk assessments, and permit-to-work (PTW) procedures. - Assist in coordinating emergency responses related to DP failures or navigational hazards. - Ensure compliance with ISM Code, vessel safety management systems (SMS), and ISPS requirements. Teamwork & Communication: - Work closely with the Master, Chief Officer, SDPO, and engineering team to ensure operational safety. - Provide clear updates on DP status, environmental conditions, and vessel positioning. - Assist in the training and mentoring of junior officers and cadets.
