Key Responsibilities: • Irrigation and Water Management: • Design, implement, and maintain irrigation systems (e.g., drip, sprinkler) to ensure optimal water distribution and efficiency. • Monitor and manage water resources, including water quality and usage, to minimize waste and environmental impact. • Develop and implement water conservation strategies. • Soil and Land Management: • Analyze soil conditions and develop recommendations for soil preparation, fertilization, and amendment programs. • Oversee land preparation, including land clearing, terracing, and drainage systems. • Implement and monitor soil erosion control measures. • Machinery and Equipment: • Select, procure, and maintain agricultural machinery and equipment (e.g., tractors, harvesters, sprayers). • Develop and implement maintenance schedules to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime. • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues. • Greenhouse/Protected Cultivation (if applicable): • Design, implement, and manage greenhouse or other protected cultivation structures. • Control environmental factors (temperature, humidity, ventilation) to optimize plant growth. • Crop Management: • Collaborate with agronomists and farm managers to develop and implement best practices for banana Cavendish cultivation, including planting, pruning, pest and disease control, and harvesting. • Monitor crop health and identify potential problems, providing recommendations for corrective action. • Infrastructure Development and Maintenance: • Design and oversee the construction and maintenance of farm infrastructure, including roads, storage facilities, and processing areas. • Ensure compliance with relevant safety and environmental regulations. • Data Analysis and Reporting: • Collect and analyze data related to irrigation, soil conditions, crop yields, and equipment performance. • Prepare regular reports on key performance indicators (KPIs). • Team Leadership and Training: • Supervise and train farm staff in the operation and maintenance of agricultural systems and equipment. • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement. Qualifications: • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agricultural Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, or a related field. • Minimum of 5 years of experience in agricultural engineering, preferably in a commercial plantation setting. • Experience with banana Cavendish cultivation is highly desirable. • Experience with irrigation system design and implementation is essential. • Experience with farm machinery maintenance and repair. Skills: • Strong technical skills in irrigation, soil management, and machinery maintenance. • Proficiency in using relevant software (e.g., CAD, GIS, irrigation design software) is a plus. • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Knowledge of Malaysian agricultural regulations and practices. • Fluency in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
