Job Summary:
The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the university's campus, students, staff, faculty, and visitors. The officer will monitor and patrol campus grounds, enforce university policies, and respond to emergencies, ensuring a safe and secure environment for the academic community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Campus Patrols: Conduct regular foot and vehicle patrols of university buildings, dormitories, parking lots, and outdoor spaces to deter and detect security risks.
- Emergency Response: Respond promptly to emergencies, including medical incidents, fires, criminal activities, and disturbances, while ensuring appropriate action is taken to resolve or mitigate the situation.
- Access Control: Monitor entry and exit points to ensure only authorized personnel and visitors access restricted areas, and issue identification badges when required.
- Incident Reporting: Document incidents, accidents, violations, and security breaches in accurate and timely reports, and escalate matters to senior staff when necessary.
- Surveillance Monitoring: Operate and monitor security cameras, alarm systems, and other security devices to detect unusual activities and potential threats.
- Policy Enforcement: Enforce university policies related to security, health, and safety, including building regulations, parking regulations, and campus codes of conduct.
- Collaboration: Work closely with campus security teams, local law enforcement, and emergency responders during critical incidents or investigations.
- Public Assistance: Provide assistance to students, staff, and visitors by answering inquiries, directing them to locations, and offering general support.
- Training and Development: Participate in regular security training, safety drills, and professional development opportunities to remain current on security practices and university policies.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (some college education or certification in security management is preferred).
- Open to fresh graduates.
- Previous experience in a security or law enforcement role (campus or institutional security experience is a plus).
- Knowledge of security systems, emergency response protocols, and basic first aid.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally and respectfully with diverse individuals.
- Ability to remain calm and make decisions under pressure in emergency situations.
- Physical fitness to conduct foot patrols, assist in emergencies, and respond to various physical demands of the role.
- Valid security guard license (if required by local regulations).
- Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Working Conditions:
- Position involves a mix of indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to weather conditions.
- May require standing, walking, and patrolling for extended periods.
- Availability for on-call duties or emergency response situations.
