Service Manager (Manufacturing Equipment)
Job Summary:
The Service Manager for Manufacturing Equipment is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and servicing of manufacturing equipment and machinery within the organization. This role involves managing a team of service technicians, ensuring timely and efficient equipment performance, and driving continuous improvements to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of equipment. The Service Manager will also collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless integration between equipment and production requirements.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead, manage, and develop a team of service technicians and engineers to ensure they perform maintenance and repairs effectively and safely.
- Provide training and support for the team on new equipment, maintenance procedures, and safety standards.
- Conduct performance reviews and coaching sessions to enhance skills, productivity, and employee satisfaction.
- Equipment Maintenance & Repair:
- Oversee and prioritize routine maintenance, emergency repairs, and upgrades to manufacturing equipment and machinery.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize unplanned downtime and increase equipment reliability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and technical issues affecting manufacturing equipment.
- Service Coordination:
- Coordinate and schedule service activities to minimize disruptions to production operations.
- Ensure that spare parts and tools are readily available and properly managed.
- Establish clear communication channels with production and operations teams to anticipate maintenance needs and issues.
- Quality & Compliance:
- Ensure all equipment servicing and repairs are conducted in compliance with safety standards, regulatory guidelines, and company policies.
- Monitor equipment performance and ensure adherence to quality control processes.
- Prepare documentation for repairs, inspections, and compliance audits.
- Budget & Cost Management:
- Develop and manage the service department’s budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources for equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities in maintenance and repair processes while maintaining high levels of service quality.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance equipment uptime, performance, and reliability.
- Collaborate with the engineering and operations teams to evaluate new technologies and tools that may improve service efficiency and equipment performance.
- Customer & Vendor Relationship Management:
- Liaise with external service providers and suppliers to ensure timely procurement of parts and services.
- Maintain positive relationships with external vendors and service contractors for specialized maintenance needs.
- Reporting & Documentation:
- Provide regular reports on service activities, equipment performance, maintenance schedules, and project status.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all maintenance and repair work, including parts used, labor hours, and equipment downtime.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical / Process / Industrial), Business Administration, or similar.
- Experience:
- Minimum 8 years of experience in after-sales service operations in manufacturing industries.
- At least 5 years of experience in the management of Field Service teams.
- Experience as a Field Service Engineer is advantageous.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Proficiency in SAP, field service management software, and tools for scheduling, reporting, and resource allocation is a plus.
- Demonstrates extraordinary ownership and accountability.
- Strong customer centricity, focus, and entrepreneurship.
- Ability to understand customer requirements and translate them into solutions.
- Results-oriented with excellent problem-solving and conflict management skills.

- Certifications in industrial maintenance or equipment management (e.g., CMRP, CMRT, etc.).
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
