  • The role holder will be part of the Equities business franchise under Market Securities Services Operations (MSSO) umbrella. The business covers products in the Equity Derivatives and Prime Finance areas. The scope of the team in KL comprises middle office operations and includes the following activities:
  • Trade validations to front office systems, cash equity/stock loan breaks, intersystem break investigation, review documentation and settlement discrepancy queries from back office operation teams.

The Opportunity:

  • You will be part of a task force responsible for managing post trade support activities such as intersystem break investigation, trade validations, resolve trade/settlement discrepancies and trade life cycle management The role will cover Hong Kong and European facilitated activities under Hong Kong balance sheets.
  • This role requires frequent interactions with traders, sales, structurer and trading support as well as back office operations such as confirmations, settlements & cash services ops. The balance sheet covers APAC (Asia - Pacific) business predominantly.
  • The role will be working on Hong Kong shift with a possibility for staggered work hours.

What you’ll do:

Primary Responsibilities:

Responsible for managing post trade support activities to the Equity Derivatives Operations team for Hong Kong region such as intersystem break investigation and resolution, trade validations, transaction support, query management, regulatory reports preparation, operational risks management. Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Intersystem break investigation and resolution.
  • Control and Validation of trade capture on Structure Derivatives Products and Structure Equities Finance Products.
  • Query management and Transaction support on Derivatives and Structure products.
  • Regulatory Reports preparations such as HKSFC/HKMA Surveys, other regulatory derivatives reports etc.
  • Interact with stakeholders to resolve trade discrepancies, issues on a timely manner, and escalate as needed.
  • Production of daily/weekly/ monthly MI (Management Information) reporting to management.
  • Participate in UAT (User Acceptance Testing) for new systems and enhancements, ensuring they meet business and operational requirements.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking and judgment to operational situations in a fast paced environment to drive progress.
  • Timely escalation when necessary for issues that may cause financial loss to the bank or that could affect client relationships.
  • Maintain high standards of control and minimal operational incidents. Identify potential financial risk to the bank and ensure proper resolution is achieved within the bank’s guidelines.
  • Work with cross functional global product heads in MSS (Market Security Services) Operations to plan and execute future migrations and or projects, based on agreed end-state operating model.
  • Ensure consistent procedures are being followed for migrations from all locations and build capability in Kuala Lumpur to receive and manage functions.
  • Continue to improve processes and realise efficiency savings. Conduct root cause analysis on repetitive process exceptions and implement fixes.
  • Recruit and train local staff as required, including establish materials, training programmes etc. to ensure specialist product and process knowledge can be retained and handed on appropriately to new staff.
  • Work with IT (Information Technology) to implement both strategic and tactical change programmes.
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • A degree holder in Business or Finance would be preferred.
  • 3-5 years of investment banking experience would be recommended.
  • Strong understanding of the Derivatives products.
  • Added advantage would be prior middle office experience of Markets products.
  • Experienced operations professional with significant exposure on people management.
  • Exceptional leadership and management skills with the capability or track record of managing staff.
  • Ability to work in a virtual team environment with ability to support multiple functions and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical and critical thinking skills to effectively identify, assess and resolve complex operational challenges, ensuring seamless support of operation activities and compliance with regulatory requirement.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility in working hours to accommodate the dynamic nature of financial markets and ensure timely support for trading activities and client needs.
  • Hands on experience of executing on-shore and off-shore operating models.
  • Strong awareness and appreciation to operations risk and control and exception management.
  • Ability to implement global initiatives and work as part of a global management team.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to manage local and international relationships across an organisation.
  • Attention to detail and a hands on approach to management to work with local managers driving process change and improve efficiency and control.
  • Drive and work in a good team spirit. Create reliable connectivity with team members and peers group.
