Position: Project Manager
Location: Kuala Lumpur (Travelling around Klang Valley)
Reports to: Operations Director
Department: Project Management

Job Overview:
The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing the development, implementation, and operation of various projects within the supermarket chain. This includes new store openings, renovations, operational improvements, and other initiatives that enhance the supermarket’s service, customer experience, and efficiency. The role will ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning and Coordination:

  • Manage the entire project lifecycle, from planning to execution and delivery.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, external contractors, suppliers, and architects to define project scope, objectives, timelines, and resources.
  • Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets, ensuring alignment with company goals.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for new and existing projects.

Team Management:

  • Lead and manage cross-functional teams, ensuring smooth collaboration among project stakeholders, including operations, design, construction, marketing, and finance teams.
  • Oversee staff performance, provide guidance, and address any performance issues that arise during the project.
  • Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and contractors for project deliverables and ensure quality standards.

Budget and Resource Management:

  • Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring projects stay within financial constraints and optimizing cost efficiency.
  • Allocate resources effectively to meet project needs, balancing operational and capital costs.
  • Track project progress and performance against budget and timelines, making adjustments as necessary to meet objectives.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and mitigate project risks, proactively solving problems to minimize disruptions.
  • Maintain regular communication with senior management, providing updates on potential risks and issues.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations in all aspects of the project.

Store Design and Layout Optimization:

  • Work closely with design and construction teams to ensure stores are designed to maximize space, customer flow, and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure that store designs align with brand guidelines and local market preferences.

Store Openings and Renovations:

  • Manage the launch of new stores, from site selection to opening, ensuring all aspects of the store meet operational standards.
  • Oversee renovations, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations and maintaining customer satisfaction.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Act as the main point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, suppliers, and regulatory authorities.
  • Ensure customer experience is at the forefront of project planning and execution, ensuring store layout, product offerings, and overall store design enhance customer satisfaction.

Post-Project Evaluation:

  • Conduct post-project reviews to assess performance, challenges faced, and areas of improvement.
  • Implement lessons learned for future projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Business Administration, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 10 - 15 years of experience in project management, preferably within the retail or supermarket sector.
  • Proven track record in managing large-scale projects, store openings, or renovations.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of budgeting, resource allocation, and cost management.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and software.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong understanding of supermarket operations, customer service, and retail trends.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or similar.
  • Experience with sustainability and energy-efficient project initiatives.
  • Experience in procurement and contract negotiation.

Work Conditions:

  • Full-time position with occasional travel to various store locations.
  • Flexible work hours, including weekends or evenings when required to meet project deadlines.
