JOB OVERVIEW The Metal Smelting Technician responsible for operating and maintaining smelting furnaces, monitoring melting and refining processes, and ensuring the production of high-quality molten metal. The role involves handling raw materials, furnace operations, temperature control, and slag removal while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Furnace Operation and Metal Melting. - Operation induction , electric arc, or blast furnaces for melting metal. - Monitor temperature, power levels, and raw material input to achieve optimal melting conditions. - Charge furnaces with scrap metal, concentrates, fluxes, and additives based on production requirements. -Control the chemical composition of molten metal by adding alloying elements. 2. Process Monitoring & Quality Control - Regularly check metal temperature, fluidity, and purity during the smelting process. - Conduct spectrometric to analyze metal composition. - Skim off slag and impurities to ensure high-quality metal output. - Ensure proper deoxidation and degassing of molten metal. 3. Maintenance Troubleshooting - Perform routine furnace inspections and assist in maintenance activities. - Identify and troubleshoot issues in melting, slag formation, and refractory wear. - Maintain cooling systems, thermocouples, and furnace linings for efficient operation. 4. Safety and Environmental Compliance - Monitor exhaust and ventilation systems to control emissions. - Handle hazardous gases and dust according to environmental regulations. QUALIFICATION AND REQUIREMENTS - Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or any related fields. - 5 years or more experience in metal foundry, smelting or casting toperation is and advantage. - Knowledge of metal refining , heat treatment, and furnace technologies. Technical Skills: - Ability to operate smelting furnaces, thermocouples, and casting equipment. - Understanding of metal alloys, oxidation-reduction reactions, and slag chemistry - Familiarity with PLC-controlled furnace systems and industrial autoamation. - Basic welding, cutting, and refractory brickwork skills.
