Viking, a dynamic company boasting an extensive and expanding fleet, offers a wide array of global cruise experiences. We are on the lookout for dedicated individuals to become part of our H Galley team.
Position Purpose
As an Assistant Cook, you'll be crucial in preparing delicious meals for guests and crew, following recipes designed by the Executive Chef. Your basic culinary skills will be applied across different kitchen sections, and you'll play a key role in maintaining a guest - focused service culture to boost guest satisfaction and company profitability.
Responsibilities
- Food Preparation: Prepare basic food items according to recipes and supervisor instructions.
- Station Maintenance: Keep your allocated station clean and up to the high standards of our STAR Service.
- Resource Management: Practice economical work methods, control food production, and minimize waste.
- Health and Hygiene: Ensure food prep and storage comply with public health policies and company regulations. Follow the “clean as you go” principle, separate and dispose of garbage properly.
- Pre-service Setup: Have all mise - en - place tasks completed 15 minutes before service.
- Team Collaboration: Participate in “The Daily Reunion” to understand team needs and adhere to STAR Service Standards.
- Safety and Appearance: Wear appropriate PPE, use correct lifting techniques, maintain grooming standards as per our Image and Uniform Standards.
- Flexibility and Adaptability: Be flexible with working hours, work well under pressure, and project a positive image.
- Company Goals: Be motivated to achieve the Culinary Department's quality and financial goals.
- Safety and Training: Know safety and security procedures, comply with relevant policies, and participate in required training.
- Versatility: Be able to work in any section assigned by your supervisor, as the assignment may change.
Requirements
- Age Requirement: Applicants must be 21 years old or above.
- Appearance: No visible tattoos on exposed body parts are allowed.
- Experience and Education: A minimum of 2 years experience as an Assistant Cook or similar in a premium - brand hospitality or restaurant setting. Or, a professional culinary education plus six months of Assistant Cook experience. Basic culinary and knife-handling skills are a must.
- Language Skills: Fluent in English with excellent communication skills to understand and explain documents like menus and recipes.
- Teamwork: Demonstrate the ability to work efficiently and productively in a team.
- Personal Attributes: Be flexible, stress - resistant, a committed team player with a great work ethic. Have a guest-focused, service - oriented attitude, a positive personality, a professional appearance, and high hygiene standards. Be eager to learn and comply with public health policies.
- Advantage: Previous cruise industry experience is preferred.
