Overview:
The Student Counselor will play a pivotal role in fostering a supportive environment that promotes the mental and emotional well-being of our students. This role involves direct counseling services, proactive engagement in student wellness programs, and collaboration with academic departments to facilitate comprehensive support systems across the campus.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Direct Counseling Services:
- Provide personal, academic, and career counseling to students through individual sessions and group workshops.Assess and address mental health issues, referring students to additional resources or specialists as necessary
2. Program Development and Implementation:
- Develop and implement initiatives aimed at enhancing student well-being, including stress reduction, anxiety management, and resilience building programs.
- Organize and lead outreach programs to increase awareness and educate the student body on mental health issues.
3. Collaborative Engagement:
- Actively collaborate with the academics and student management departments to identify at-risk students and coordinate support measures.
- Participate in regular meetings with faculty and administrative staff to integrate and optimize student support services.
4. Record Keeping and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and confidential counseling records, ensuring all documentation complies with legal and ethical standards.
- Prepare reports on service utilization and effectiveness, contributing to the continuous improvement of counseling services.
5. Professional Requirements:
- Stay abreast of current trends in student counseling and mental health; participate in professional development activities.
- Ensure adherence to all national and professional ethical guidelines concerning student counseling.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- At least 2 years of relevant professional experience, particularly in an educational or youth counseling setting.
- Current licensure as a counselor in Malaysia.
- Demonstrated proficiency in handling sensitive information discreetly and ethically.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
