Job Description

Core Competencies:

  • Able to design and implement effective digital product underwriting and distribution strategies, incorporating technology driven solutions within different Insurance Business Lines (eg. Consumer, Commercial, Operation & Service) business lines.
  • Deep understanding of delivering Insurance technology solutions to corporates, customers, intermediaries (broker and agent) underwriters, operation, and services teams.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of IT systems, digital technologies, and emerging trends in the insurance industry. Proficiency in leveraging technology to enhance distribution channels and streamline operations.
  • Excellent understanding of insurance products and services, such as property & casualty and accident & health. Familiar with insurance industry regulations, compliance requirements and emerging innovations in the insurance technology space.
  • Possess a strong technical foundation to challenge solution designs or ambiguous business strategies with solid soft skills to enhance relationships across all levels of the organization, to successfully influence company direction.
  • Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills with thorough attention to detail. Excellent planning, documentation, and problem-solving skills. Time management ability and drive-for-results oriented outcomes.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities

  • Solution Design: Develop comprehensive architecture strategies and frameworks for new and existing insurance products, ensuring alignment with company goals and industry standards. Driving alignment and consistency of the solution design by working with regional and global architecture teams and other stakeholders
  • Requirement Analysis: Collaborate with business units to gather, define, and document technical and functional requirements for system improvements and new projects.
  • Technology Assessment: Evaluate and recommend appropriate technologies, tools, and platforms that support the company's strategic objectives and architectural vision. Conduct market research and analysis, focusing on technology trends, customer preferences, and competitive landscape to inform strategy decisions.
  • Integration Solutions: Design integration patterns (API, Data Streaming, SFTP) for various systems and applications while ensuring data consistency, quality, and security across platforms.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, business analysts, and project managers, to enable successful delivery and implementation of solutions. Work with Agile Practitioner and Business analysts to contribute to project schedules, resource plans and perform cost benefits analysis. Work with in-country development teams to engage in strategic roadmap and delivery projects.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain architectural roadmaps, solution blueprints, decision documentation, design specifications, and standards to guide development and implementation efforts.
  • Stakeholder Management: Present architectural solutions and key decisions in Architecture Review Board, Design Authority Meetings etc. to technical and non-technical stakeholders, addressing concerns, aligning with strategy, and gaining buy-in.
  • Best Practices: Promote best practices and standards for software development, system architecture, and quality assurance within the insurance domain.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements to proactively suggest improvements and innovations. Analyze market feedback and customer data, leveraging data analytics and business intelligence tools to identify opportunities for improvements and potential cross-selling and upselling opportunities.

Qualifications

Key Requirements:

  • Technical Expertise: Deep industry knowledge on insurance operations and the related technologies and their competencies. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, .Net, Python. Experience with API frameworks/tools, and microservice architecture. Familiarity with database management systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB). Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) is an added advantage.
  • Experience: Total overall experience of 12-15yrs with a minimum of 5yrs insurance technology experience with proven experience in insurance underwriting platforms. Demonstrated ability to develop and execute successful distribution strategies leveraging technology platforms which resulted in increased revenues or market share.
  • Global/Regional: Ideally have at least 5yrs of regional/global experience with responsibilities over multi-country architecture and delivery.
  • Business Engagement: Effective engagement and alignment of IT with executive sponsors and business stakeholders. Able to effectively manage relationships with external stakeholders (i.e. vendors and consultants) and internal stakeholders (e.g. development and operational teams).
  • Communication: Can effectively discuss complex problems and solutions with different audiences at the appropriate level of detail i.e. technical vs non-technical audience. Able to give presentations to large groups of listeners and lead discussions to drive to a final decision or outcome.
  • Language: The ability to effectively conduct business in English is a must. Proficiency in any other Asian languages is an added benefit.
  • Motivated & Enthusiastic: Self-motivated and self-sufficient, ability to drive outcomes and deal well with ambiguity, deal with difficult situations, deal with change in a proactive and positive manner.
