MSF Asia Pacific (APAC) is a formal Partnership (between institutional MSF regions Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, and Korea) working towards the development of MSF’s goals for the benefit of MSF operations and patients world-wide.

Responsibilities

This newly created part time position will plan and manage public communications and engagement activities specifically in Chinese language to raise the visibility, awareness and acceptance of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in Malaysia and the region. Accountabilities will include content development, media relations and online media management.

Reporting to the Regional Communications Manager APAC, you will utilise media, online media (website and social media channels) and public events to promote the profile and identity of MSF for Chinese audiences to amplify both the humanitarian activities of MSF worldwide as well as the communications, fundraising and recruitment efforts of MSF APAC in Malaysia and within the Asia Pacific region.

This is a dynamic position offering the opportunity to work across a diverse range of initiatives within a highly collaborative team.

Requirements

To be successful in this role you will be open to learning, be comfortable taking initiative and enjoy working remotely within a virtual team across the APAC region. Ideally you will demonstrate:

  • Minimum 3 years’ journalistic or public relations experience, preferably with Chinese media and/or in Chinese language
  • Experience producing engaging content with skills in online writing, editing and proofreading in Chinese and English along with an exceptional eye for detail.
  • Good knowledge of Chinese local media in Malaysia and established media networks.
  • Commitment to the medical humanitarian aims and values of MSF
  • Ability to work independently and remotely but also a good team player
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English and Chinese
  • Good presentation and solid experience in Chinese translation and copy writing
  • Ability to work under pressure and to respect deadlines
  • Flexible and willing to travel

Other desirable skills include:

  • Chinese media networks in the APAC region
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to prepare reports and presentations for internal stakeholders
  • Willingness to learn new skills and contribute in a team environment
  • Strong interest and knowledge of world affairs
  • Experience working with NGO/INGOs
