Job Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree/Diploma in Library Science, Information Management, or a related field.
- Key Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to manage daily library operations effectively.
- Proficient in maintaining office facilities, equipment, and stationery.
- Skilled in managing and controlling library records, files, and documents.
- Capable of distributing internal and external correspondence (letters and emails).
- Ability to handle public complaints professionally and provide appropriate responses.
- Strong financial management skills, including the ability to prepare monthly financial reports.
- Capable of conducting briefings and library orientation programs.
- Knowledge of library policies and procedures and ability to adhere to them.
- Flexibility to perform other duties as assigned by a superior.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Acquisition:
- Circulate publisher catalogues, book lists, and acquisition request forms to academic staff for selection.
- Select and purchase books based on recommendations from academic staff and students.
- Manage serial acquisitions, including daily newspapers.
- Prepare book lists for quotation and compare book prices.
- Process received items and invoices for payment.
- Prepare monthly reports on the status of book purchasing and library book expenditures.
2. Cataloguing:
- Prepare cataloguing input sheets for new materials.
- Perform original or copy cataloguing tasks.
- Enter data into the library system accurately.
- Embed security strips into the library collection to ensure security.
- Prepare library labels for books.
3. Circulation:
- Oversee the borrowing, reservation, renewal, and return of library materials.
- Collect overdue fines and monitor payment status.
- Generate reports related to circulation activities.
- Ensure materials are shelved in an orderly manner.
- Collect newspapers daily and display them in the library.
- Guide library users on how to access relevant materials.
4. Automation:
- Manage, assess, and evaluate the library system for efficiency.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the library’s e-collection (e-journals, e-books).
- Manage library databases and contribute to the development of the library’s web page.
5. Collection Development:
- Develop the library collection through gift and exchange programs.
- Conduct stock-checking at the end of the year and produce stock-taking reports.
- Manage the restoration, binding, preservation, and disposal of materials.
- Oversee the binding of back issues and loose materials (either in-house or outsourced).
- Conduct customer satisfaction surveys at the end of each year to gather feedback.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: RM1,700.00 - RM2,000.00 per month
