Senior Lecturer in TESL

Position Summary:

The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in TESL will play a key role in teaching, research, and academic leadership within the department of English Language Studies, Linguistics, or a related faculty. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, supervising research students, and contributing to the academic and professional development of TESL programs. This role also includes engagement in curriculum development, research activities, and institutional service.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • PhD and or MAsters in TESL, Applied Linguistics, English Language Education, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of teaching experience in TESL or a related discipline at the university level.
  • Proven record of research publications in high-impact journals related to TESL, linguistics, or language education.
  • Experience in curriculum development, academic program management, and quality assurance.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising undergraduate, Master's, and PhD students.
  • Expertise in language teaching methodologies, second language acquisition, and bilingual education.
  • Proficiency in blended learning, e-learning platforms, and educational technology.
  • Familiarity with language proficiency frameworks (IELTS, TOEFL etc.).
  • Strong skills in academic writing, research methodologies, and grant writing.
  • Ability to collaborate on interdisciplinary research and educational projects.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and teamwork abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in academic settings.
  • Passion for student engagement and professional mentorship.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Teaching & Learning:

  • Develop and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in TESL, Applied Linguistics, and English Language Teaching (ELT).
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods including lectures, seminars, workshops, and online learning platforms.
  • Design engaging course materials, lesson plans, and assessment tools that align with institutional and accreditation standards.
  • Integrate modern instructional technology and blended learning techniques into teaching strategies.
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, dissertations, and theses related to TESL and applied linguistics.
  • Conduct assessments, examinations, and grading while providing constructive feedback to students.

2. Research & Scholarly Activities:

  • Conduct and publish high-quality research in areas related to TESL, second language acquisition, language pedagogy, and applied linguistics.
  • Secure research grants and funding from internal and external sources.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary and collaborative research initiatives within and beyond the institution.
  • Present research findings at national and international conferences.
  • Supervise PhD and/or Master's students in TESL and related research areas.

3. Curriculum & Program Development:

  • Assist in the design, review, and enhancement of TESL curricula to align with international language teaching standards such as TESOL, and TEFL methodologies.
  • Contribute to program accreditation and quality assurance efforts to maintain high academic standards.
  • Stay updated on the latest trends in TESL and innovate teaching methodologies accordingly.

4. Academic Advising & Student Support:

  • Provide academic guidance, mentorship, and career counseling to students pursuing TESL and language studies.
  • Support students in academic writing, research methodology, and professional development.
  • Organize and participate in student-centered learning activities, workshops, and study groups.

5. Service to the Institution & Professional Community:

  • Participate in faculty meetings, department committees, and academic planning.
  • Represent the institution at academic, governmental, and professional organizations related to TESL and language education.
  • Organize conferences, seminars, and professional development workshops for students and faculty.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, including schools, language institutions, and industry partners.
  • Engage in community service projects related to TESL and language education.

6. Administrative & Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Take on departmental or faculty leadership roles such as course coordinator, program head, or research cluster leader.
  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and mentoring of junior faculty members.
  • Manage and oversee research projects, funding allocations, and academic partnerships.
  • Contribute to institutional policies on language education, digital learning, and interdisciplinary studies.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: RM5,000.00 - RM7,000.00 per month
