- Position Overview
The Environmental Officer (EO) is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, policies, and best practices at project sites. This role involves conducting environmental assessments, monitoring pollution levels, implementing sustainability initiatives, and ensuring adherence to relevant environmental laws and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Regulatory Compliance & Documentation: Ensure compliance with the Environmental Quality Act 1974, Department of Environment (DOE) Malaysia regulations, and project-specific environmental requirements.
- Environmental Monitoring & Inspections: Conduct site inspections and environmental impact assessments to ensure proper waste management, including hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
- Technical Support: Provide environmental technical support for the project, including the preparation and implementation of process technology solutions and commissioning solutions.
- Acceptance & Formalities: Handle project-related acceptance procedures, including environmental acceptance and project completion acceptance.
- Incident Management & Reporting: Investigate environmental incidents and recommend corrective actions.
- Training & Awareness: Conduct training sessions and awareness programs to promote environmental best practices.
- Coordination & Communication: Liaise with DOE Malaysia, local authorities, other departments, internal teams, and subcontractors to integrate environmental best practices.
- Document Preparation: Prepare reports and documentation related to environmental aspects.
- Complete other work assigned by department head.
Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, or related fields.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in environmental compliance, preferably in the construction sector.
- Familiarity with environmental laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Experience with environmental risk assessments and sustainability initiatives.
- Knowledge of environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
- Ability to conduct environmental audits and inspections.
- Strong problem-solving skills, particularly in managing environmental risks or non-compliance.
