Key Responsibilities: 1. CNC Programming & Process Development Develop, optimize, and validate CNC programs for 3-axis and 5-axis milling/turning operations. Use TopSolid CAM or other CAM software to generate accurate toolpaths and ensure collision-free machining. Conduct toolpath simulation and verification to prevent errors and optimize cutting strategies. Establish machining parameters (cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut) based on material properties and tool capabilities. Ensure accurate tool offsets, work coordinate setups, and G-code validation before production release. 2. Machining Setup & Optimization Define setup sheets and work instructions for machine operators. Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and work-holding methods for complex part geometries. Work with manufacturing teams to ensure proper machine calibration, zero-point setting, and alignment. Optimize cycle time reduction strategies while maintaining part quality and process stability. 3. Fixture & Tool Design Design custom work-holding fixtures and jigs using 3D CAD software. Develop and validate special cutting tools for high-precision machining. Work with tooling suppliers to implement cost-effective tool solutions. 4. Process Control & Quality Assurance Collaborate with quality engineers to establish first article inspection (FAI) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) monitoring. Troubleshoot dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and tolerance issues in CNC-machined components. Work with CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) operators to validate part specifications against drawings. Apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) principles to ensure compliance with design intent. 5. New Product Introduction (NPI) & Manufacturing Feasibility Conduct feasibility studies for NPI parts in collaboration with design engineers and product managers. Define machining strategies for prototype and production parts based on manufacturability analysis. Work with R&D teams to iterate designs for improved manufacturability and cost efficiency. 6. Process Improvement & Lean Manufacturing Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance machining productivity and reduce scrap. Apply Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing principles for waste reduction and efficiency gains. Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective actions for machining defects and tool failures. Maintain compliance with 5S and 6S workplace organization standards. 7. Tooling & Maintenance Management Monitor and manage cutting tool life, wear conditions, and replacement schedules. Maintain an up-to-date tool list in the CAM database to ensure tool availability. Support preventive maintenance plans for CNC machines to minimize unexpected downtime. 8. Technical Training & Documentation Train machine operators and production staff on CNC setup, machining techniques, and best practices. Develop and maintain technical documentation (setup sheets, machining procedures, troubleshooting guides). Standardize work instructions for CNC program handovers and change management. Minimum Qualifications: Diploma/Degree in Precision Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in high-precision CNC milling/turning and CAM programming for multi-axis machining. Preferred Technical Skills: Advanced CNC programming (3-axis & 5-axis milling) using TopSolid CAM or similar software. Strong understanding of G-code/M-code, tool compensation, and post-processing. Hands-on experience with aluminium and stainless steel machining. DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and GD&T expertise for precision engineering. Proficiency in SPC (Statistical Process Control) and process stability improvement. Knowledge of fixture design, tool path verification, and workpiece holding techniques. Familiarity with CMM operation and dimensional inspection techniques. Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking for troubleshooting machining issues. Excellent collaboration skills with cross-functional teams (Production, Quality, Design). Effective technical communication and ability to train production teams. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Willingness to work overtime based on project needs.
