Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Management:
- Lead and supervise nursing staff in the labor ward, ensuring proper training, guidance, and development opportunities.
- Ensure nursing care meets or exceeds the hospital’s clinical standards and quality of care guidelines.
- Oversee staffing levels and assist in scheduling to ensure adequate coverage in the unit.
- Participate in performance reviews, staff evaluations, and provide constructive feedback to enhance team performance.
- Patient Care and Safety:
- Monitor and evaluate patient care, ensuring compliance with established protocols and procedures.
- Ensure the proper use of equipment and adherence to safety protocols to prevent complications during labor and delivery.
- Serve as a clinical resource and support for staff in providing evidence-based care to laboring mothers and newborns.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including obstetricians, anesthesiologists, midwives, pediatricians, and support staff to ensure coordinated and effective care.
- Communicate effectively with patients and families, providing education, emotional support, and updates on the progress of labor and delivery.
- Quality Improvement and Compliance:
- Implement and monitor quality assurance programs to ensure that care delivery is safe, efficient, and in line with national standards and hospital policies.
- Maintain knowledge of current best practices, guidelines, and legal regulations related to labor and delivery nursing.
- Participate in audits, risk assessments, and compliance activities, ensuring adherence to health and safety regulations.
- Budget and Resource Management:
- Manage the labor ward’s budget, including resource allocation for staffing, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist with the procurement of necessary materials and ensure that resources are used efficiently.
- Education and Training:
- Provide ongoing education and training to nursing staff on new procedures, clinical protocols, and advancements in obstetric care.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning, encouraging professional development and nursing certification in obstetric care.
- Emergency Response and Crisis Management:
- Lead and coordinate nursing responses in emergency situations, such as complicated deliveries or maternal or fetal distress.
- Ensure nursing staff are trained and prepared for emergency procedures like neonatal resuscitation and postpartum hemorrhage management.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- A Master’s in Nursing or related healthcare field is preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in labor and delivery nursing, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Experience with managing a team and improving clinical practices in a fast-paced environment.
- Licensing and Certifications:
- Current, valid RN license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
- Post Basic in Midwifery is mandatory
- Skills:
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive under pressure.
- Knowledge of hospital policies, nursing procedures, and clinical protocols in labor and delivery.
- Ability to foster a supportive and compassionate environment for patients and staff alike.
