1.Develop and implement the objectives, policies and standards for nursing care of patients. 2. Develop standards of performance for department staff, monitor and evaluate their performance and initiate or make recommendations for improvement. 3. Prepare and recommend nursing budget to implement nursing objectives. 8. Participate in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of all nursing training programs. 9. Assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of competency program for the nursing service staff. -Work with the Clinical Educator / HR manager on internal/ external nursing education. -Plan and motivate staff on post basic courses. 10. Estimate need for facilities, supplies and equipments and have a system for evaluation and control. -Approve orders of unit supplies recommended by the Nurse Manager. - Provide for the securing of special equipment. 11.Provide for nursing staff to plan with medical staff and other ancillary departments for total needs of the patients. 12.Collaborate with the administrative staff, other departmental staff and relevant others in planning services for patients. 13. Establish and maintain an effective system of records and reports. 14. Assume a leadership role for the group. Initiate and promote activities on administrative, supervisory and nursing care practices. -Exercise general supervision over the nurse managers and through them, unit nurses and other staff. - Evaluate the work performance of the Nurse Manager. -Recommends termination, transfer and promotion. -Visit patient with special needs when necessary. -Advise Nurse Manager in matters of patient care and assist in bedside care as required. -Counsel appropriately visitors and relatives regarding patient conditions and needs. 15.Coordinate with pre-arranged educational colleges for the use of nursing facilities, to facilitate student learning experiences and clinical practice. 16.Participate and promote interest in the community activities. 17. Serve as liaison between staff of the units assigned and the RCEO/CEO. 18. Play key role in disaster emergencies. Plan, organize and assist in carrying out disaster plans with Nurse Managers and Heads of Department (HOD). 19. Responsible for compliance to patient safety goals and safety improvement activities. 20. Handle patient's complaints. 21. Support activities that contribute towards its improvement (Quality Assurance and Infection Control). 22. Participate in HOD meeting and hospital committee meeting as required. 23. Conduct monthly meeting with Nurse Manager for effective workforce. 24.Advise RCEO/CEO of patient care problems and needs and recommend changes in policies and procedures. 25. Investigate and report on incidents, patient complaints and suspected infections and resolve problems and make recommendations for remedial actions. 26.Responsible for recruitment and selection of nursing staff. 27. Standby for the RCEO/CEO in her/his absence. 28. Perform any other duties/ responsibilities as assigned by the RCEO/CEO. Education and Requirements: 1.State Registered Nurse with good clinical skills and knowledge. 2. A post-basic certificate and a degree in nursing. 3.Master in Nursing/ Administration is an added advantage. 4.At least 10 years experience in supervisory level/ health management. 5.Work in an administrative capacity with background and skills in such areas as budgeting, planning, measurable goal-setting, coordinating and human resource management. 6.Possess managerial and leadership skills. 7. Valid annual practicing certificate.
