General Duties & Responsibilities At all times a teacher shall conduct her/himself in an appropriate manner reflecting the good standing of the Centre and the Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation. With this in mind the teacher is aware that the particular development and interest of each individual child is of their primary concern. The teacher is aware or will be aware that the particular areas of development are; Gross Motor control, Fine Motor control, Cognition, Language (speech and communication), Social-Emotional, Independence and Self-Help skills, and development of academic skills. Each teacher is responsible for all aspects of development leading to improved independence of each particular child. Professional Duties & Responsibilities 1. To plan the students Individual Education Plan (IEP) in association with the other teaching staff and therapists based on the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP). 2. To carry out lesson plans for each student based on the IEP prepared. 3. To ensure the student’s individual education objective/goals are met and the curriculum of the centre is put into practice. 4. To maintain up-to-date records on students’ progress and prepare students’ Progress Report’s when required. 5. To work cooperatively with other professionals to strengthen the educational program for each student. 6. To inform parents of their child’s progress and discuss/explain the students IEP. 7. To prepare and make relevant teaching materials as and when necessary. 8. To attend professional meetings, educational conferences, teacher training workshops as necessary and to maintain and improve professional competence. 9. The teacher will be required to attend staff, department and any other meetings called by the management as and when necessary. 10. The teacher shall attend team conference meetings in which the progress and concerns of each child will be discussed. The objective of such meetings is to determine which interventions the student needs and to streamline the interventions so it best benefits each child. Each teacher is required to give his/her input and to report the progress of their assigned students to the rest of the team. 11. All teachers are to assist in any fundraising events organized by the Center or Kiwanis Club of Kuala Lumpur when required. 12. Any other reasonable duties requested by the Executive Director or Management of the center.
