Job Responsibilities

Research enterprise and scholarship

  • Act as principal investigator or co-investigator on research projects
  • Develop research objectives, projects and proposals
  • Conduct independent and collaborative research projects
  • Identify sources of funding and contribute to the process of securing funds
  • Extend, transform and apply knowledge acquired from scholarship to research appropriate to the discipline
  • Writing or contributing to publications or disseminating research findings using media appropriate to discipline
  • Make presentations at conferences or exhibit work at other appropriate events
  • Assess, interpret and evaluate outcomes of research
  • Develop new concepts and ideas to extend intellectual understanding
  • Resolve problems of meeting research objectives and deadlines
  • Develop ideas for generating income, promoting research areas and influencing leading edge practice
  • Develop ideas for application of research outcomes
  • Decide on research programmes and methodologies, often in collaboration with colleagues and sometimes subject to approval of the head of the research programme on fundamental issues
  • Contribute to knowledge generation, knowledge exchange and knowledge transfer activities
  • Support postgraduate (by research) marketing and recruitment activities

Managing people and resources

  • Act as research team leader
  • Plan coordinate and implement research programmes including managing the use of research resources and ensuring effective use is made of them, and managing research budgets
  • Helping to plan and implement commercial and consultancy activities
  • Planning and managing your own consultancy assignments
  • Coordinate the work of colleagues to ensure equitable access to research resources and facilities
  • Collaborate actively within the University and externally to complete research projects and advance thinking
  • Participate in and develop external networks, for example to identify sources of funding, generate income, obtain consultancy projects or build relationships for future activities

Teaching, Supervision and Mentorship

  • Involve in certain session of Teaching & Learning activities related to your specialties and TLA/objectives
  • Involve and participate in certain session of student assessment
  • Supervise other personnel in the laboratory to coordinate research efforts for increased efficiency; participate in training of fellows, residents, students and volunteer workers as needed
  • Mentor colleagues with less experience and advise on professional development
  • Coach and support colleagues in developing their research techniques
  • Supervise the work of others, for example in research teams or projects

Liaison and Networking

  • Interfacing with external scientists on collaborative programmes
  • Collaborate actively within the University and externally to complete research projects and advance thinking
  • Participate in and develop external networks, for example to identify sources of funding, generate income, obtain consultancy projects or build relationships for future activities

Job Requirement

  • Educational Background: PhD in a relevant field (Biomedical Sciences, Clinical Research, Public Health, Nutrition Sciences/Dietetics or related disciplines), whereby MD, DDS, DVM or equivalent clinical qualification (will be an added advantage)
  • Research Experience: Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and preferable with experience in conducting clinical or translational research
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in research methodologies of the respective discipline, such as (but not limited to) molecular biology techniques, bioinformatics, epidemiology, clinical trials, or AI-based medical technologies
  • Clinical Experience: Active or prior clinical practice is an advantage
  • Regulatory & Ethical Compliance: Familiarity with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Institutional Review Board (IRB) regulations, and uphold the highest ethical compliance in research activities
  • Collaboration & Leadership: Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, lead/co-lead research projects, and mentor junior researchers
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal English communication skills for scientific writing, grant applications, and public presentations
  • Preferable Skills (if any): Experience in AI-assisted diagnostics, biomarker discovery, or clinical trials; Prior involvement in securing research grants or industry collaborations; and clinical fellowship or board certification in a relevant medical specialty
