The role involves planning, scheduling, and monitoring production activities, ensuring that resources, materials, and labor are available as needed. Here is a detailed job scope for a Production Planner:

1. Production Scheduling

  • Create and manage production schedules to ensure timely delivery of products to customers.
  • Develop production plans based on customer orders, forecasts, and inventory levels.
  • Balance production loads, prioritize tasks, and allocate resources efficiently.
  • Adjust schedules as needed due to delays, resource shortages, or unexpected disruptions.

2. Resource Planning & Allocation

  • Coordinate with various departments (e.g., procurement, engineering, production) to ensure that all necessary resources, including materials, tools, and equipment, are available.
  • Monitor material availability and ensure stock levels meet production demands.
  • Ensure that staffing levels are adequate to meet production goals by collaborating with HR or shift supervisors.

3. Inventory Management

  • Track inventory levels of raw materials, components, and finished goods to ensure production runs smoothly.
  • Work with the procurement team to ensure timely purchasing of materials and supplies.
  • Minimize inventory costs by optimizing material orders, reducing excess stock, and improving inventory turnover.

4. Production Process Monitoring

  • Monitor production progress to ensure that it adheres to the production schedule, quality standards, and customer requirements.
  • Resolve any production issues that may arise, such as delays, equipment malfunctions, or quality issues, and communicate with the relevant departments to address them quickly.
  • Track production performance metrics, such as output, efficiency, and downtime, to identify opportunities for improvement.
