As a Commis Chef, you will work under the guidance of senior chefs in the kitchen, assisting in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of dishes. This is an entry-level position for aspiring chefs, where you will gain hands-on experience and knowledge in various aspects of kitchen operations.
Your responsibilities will include maintaining a clean workspace, assisting with food preparation, and ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently.
THE JOBSCOPE
- Assist in the preparation and cooking of food as directed by the senior chefs.
- Prepare ingredients such as chopping vegetables, marinating meats, and portioning ingredients for cooking.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of your assigned workstations, ensuring tools, equipment, and ingredients are readily available.
- Maintain an organized mise en place to ensure efficient food preparation.
- Assist with cooking tasks, including grilling, sautéing, steaming, and baking, depending on your station and experience level.
- Adhere to proper cleaning and hygiene practices, including maintaining a clean and sanitized workstation.
- Follow food safety standards and ensure the kitchen is kept clean and organized at all times.
- Assist in washing dishes, cleaning equipment, and maintaining general kitchen cleanliness.
- Assist in monitoring the stock of ingredients and report any shortages or issues to the supervisor.
- Help store food ingredients and ensure they are kept at proper temperatures and are rotated according to FIFO (First In, First Out) guidelines.
REQUIREMENTS
- Experience in a professional kitchen or catering environment is a plus, but not required.
- Good communication skills and ability to work under pressure.
