The Supervisor Steward will oversee the day-to-day operations of the stewarding team, ensuring cleanliness, sanitation, and organization within the kitchen, dishwashing, and service areas of the convention centre. This role is critical for ensuring the smooth operation of all events and activities by supervising stewarding staff and maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and safety.

The Supervisor Steward will also handle inventory, team training, and work closely with kitchen and event staff to ensure exceptional service and compliance with health and safety regulations.

THE JOBSCOPE

  • Supervise and direct the stewarding team, ensuring that tasks are carried out efficiently and in accordance with company standards.
  • Assign daily duties to the team, ensuring that all cleaning and sanitation tasks are completed on time.
  • Provide ongoing training and coaching to stewarding staff, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties.
  • Motivate and maintain team morale, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Ensure the kitchen, service areas, and storage areas meet the highest cleanliness standards, in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Inspect work areas regularly to ensure all cleaning tasks are completed effectively and that equipment is properly maintained.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of cleaning supplies and chemicals, and ensure staff follow safety protocols when using them.
  • Oversee the setup and breakdown of service and kitchen areas for events, ensuring all equipment is in place and operational before events begin.
  • Ensure cleanliness is maintained throughout events by monitoring and cleaning dining areas, service stations, and kitchens as needed.
  • Work with event coordinators and kitchen staff to anticipate the needs of each event and provide timely support.
  • Order and track inventory levels, working with the Chief Steward or Operations Manager to ensure stock is always replenished as needed.
  • Conduct regular inventory checks and report any shortages, damage, or discrepancies to management.
  • Ensure that all cleaning practices adhere to health and safety regulations, including food safety standards and proper hygiene protocols.
  • Monitor the condition of kitchen equipment and report any maintenance or repair needs.
  • Ensure that all waste and recycling procedures are followed, maintaining a safe and clean environment at all times.
  • Conduct regular inspections of all areas under stewardship to ensure cleanliness and hygiene standards are consistently met.
  • Work closely with kitchen, front-of-house, and event teams to ensure that operations run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Communicate effectively with other departments, handling any issues or requests promptly.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in stewarding or a similar role, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership position in hotel, or catering environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of kitchen and food service cleanliness, sanitation practices, and safety standards.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods, lift up to 25-50 lbs, and work in a physically demanding environment.
