Outpatient Department Nurse (OPD)

Out Patient Department Nurse Requirements:

· Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN)/Diploma in Nursing

· Lembaga Jururawat Malaysia approved Registered Nurse (RN).

· 1-3 years of experience

Out Patient Department Nurses Responsibilities:

· Expert knowledge of emergency medicine, Paeds, O&G and multidisciplinary Nursing.

· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure where there is a limitation of manpower. Triage in coming patients based on level of injury or illness and giving timely care and administer medication instructed by doctor.

· Good interpersonal skills and have a good rapport with patients and their families.

· To perform triage on incoming patients to prioritize the most urgent causes based on the level of injury or illness.

· Able to set Branula to start intravenous lines and carry out all doctor's orders immediately.

· Good written and verbal communication skills among the medical team and patients and their families. Ability to work closely with all team members, patients and their families.

· Exceptional multitasking skills and time management skills. Able to assist in treating infectious diseases and injuries.

· Must have good knowledge of infectious diseases and management of isolation and infection prevention Control.

· Able to observe patient needs and perform emergency procedures. Assist doctors e.g. code blue in an emergency.

· Administrative tasks like updating the census at midnight, notification of infectious diseases, etc. Must have good knowledge of infectious diseases and management of isolation and infection prevention.

· Handle out medications to patients as per prescription and update medication stock take especially during night shift.

· Assist doctors in the treatment of wounds with stitches, observe patient needs and perform emergency procedures if required.

· They assist doctors during procedures and monitor patient vital signs. they are able to handle different types of treatment and medical task quickly and efficiently.

· Some of the duties performed include cleaning and dressing wounds, inserting intravenous lines, drawing blood, and giving nebulization.

· Nurses assist and communicate with patients about their treatment plan and give health education to them after a procedure to discuss the recovery process. Follow up are important to monitor their progress of the condition.

· Maintain patient medical records accurately. Has knowledge of where and how to trace a patient ‘s medical folder.

· Help transfer stable patients to another hospital if required and familiar with transportation of ill patient to another facility.

· Knowledge and management handling needle stick injuries and raise incident reports when necessary.

· Need an extensive set of hard skills, soft skills, , including knowledge of emergency medication.
