Job Summary The Library Assistant supports daily library operations, assists patrons in accessing resources, maintains library materials, and ensures a conducive learning and research environment. Key Responsibilities Customer Service & Assistance Assist library users in locating books, journals, and digital resources. Provide guidance on library catalog usage and research tools. Handle inquiries and offer recommendations on library services. Circulation & Resource Management Issue, renew, and return books and other library materials. Maintain accurate records of borrowed and returned items. Manage overdue notices and assist in fine collection. Cataloging & Organization Assist in classifying and cataloging books, periodicals, and digital resources. Ensure books are shelved correctly according to classification systems. Assist in updating and maintaining the library database. Library Maintenance & Administration Keep the library neat, organized, and conducive for study. Assist in inventory checks and audits of library materials. Report lost or damaged books and facilitate replacements. Technology & Digital Resources Assist patrons in using computers, printers, and other library technology. Help with access to e-books, online databases, and research tools. Troubleshoot minor IT issues related to library systems. Events & Programs Support library programs such as book clubs, workshops, and exhibitions. Assist in promotional activities and outreach initiatives. Collaborate with faculty or teams for research support. Other Duties Perform other tasks as assigned by the librarian or management. Qualifications & Skills Minimum Diploma in Library Science, Information Management, or related field (Bachelor’s preferred). Prior experience in a library or similar environment is an advantage. Strong organizational and multitasking skills. Good customer service and communication skills. Knowledge of library systems, cataloging methods, and digital databases. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and library management software.
