The Refinery Financial Accountant is responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of Statutory Accounts, statutory taxation matters, Board of Directors Meeting papers, quarterly Bursa reports as per Bursa Listing Requirements, and the Annual Report. This includes:
- Keeping abreast of changes in Accounting Standards, BURSA and KLSE requirements, and the legal aspects of financial reporting to ensure quality reporting and full compliance with the requirements set by Bursa, MFRS, etc.
- Liaising with external auditors to ensure full compliance with the relevant statutory rules and accounting standards.
- Monitoring compliance with accounting policies and internal controls, especially in areas of credit policy review and assessment, and ensuring all related party transactions (RPT) are conducted in accordance with the Transfer Pricing (TP) rules and regulations.
Business Partnering
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert and provide advice on accounting-related matters.
- Provide advice to Finance Operations in terms of accounting treatments for the statutory accounts.
Financial Services Delivery
Financial Accounting
- Responsible for ensuring the integrity of the general ledger accounts, which includes managing Finance Operations for the overall monthly closing activities and assisting in the review of the overall P&L and Balance Sheet.
- Monitor compliance with accounting policies and internal controls, especially in areas of credit review and assessment, and monitor trade receivables aging.
- Ensure that all RPT conducted aligns with TP rules and regulations, as well as internal controls set by the company. Advise on any improvements where applicable.
External Financial Audits
- Plan the audit schedule to ensure audited financial statements are ready for the Board Meeting and in time for publication in the Annual Report.
- Agree with external auditors on the Prepared by Clients (PBC) listing for audit purposes and cascade the requirements to all PBC preparers in Finance Operations.
- Resolve outstanding audit matters on a timely basis.
- Review and agree on audit findings and develop appropriate close-out plans for each audit finding.
- Approve and ensure all post-audit adjustments are reflected in the system.
Taxation
- Responsible for the preparation of the Annual Income Tax Returns for submission to the Inland Revenue Board in accordance with tax legislation and IRB guidelines, by working alongside the company’s tax agent.
- Provide timely and accurate computations of income tax estimations for submission to the Inland Revenue Department for corporate tax liability assessment.
- Responsible for the timely completion of yearly Transfer Pricing documentation by working alongside the company’s appointed tax agent.
- Ensure that all Withholding Tax submissions are timely and accurate. Work closely with the MYAP and internal tax support team to ensure efficient tax processing procedures and processes are in place.
- Lead and manage all tax-related projects, including projects such as e-invoicing, tax incentive applications (if any), etc., by working alongside the company’s appointed tax agent and other relevant stakeholders. Drive claims for tax incentives and duty exemptions where applicable.
Annual General Meeting
- Liaise with the Company Secretary, Share Registrar, and CX department in organizing the AGM and ensure all necessary support is provided to ensure smooth execution of the event.
- Coordinate the Q&A pack for the AGM.
People Management and Leadership
- Manage the competency development of staff through training, coaching, and providing appropriate work experience to enable them to perform professionally and effectively in the short term and develop their marketability in the long term.
Job Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, preferably with professional certification (i.e., CPA, ACCA, CIMA, etc.)
- Experienced finance professional with 3 to 5 years of experience; experience in the refining and/or chemical manufacturing industry is preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, tax knowledge, theories, and the ability to apply them to the corporation's accounting needs.
- Attention to detail and a meticulous approach.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, i.e., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
