Job Purpose

Responsible for Industrial Relation activities including handling disciplinary cases and advising management on best practices. Set direction, create policy and offer expert advice in all matters relating to collective bargaining and corporate-wide industrial relations issues.

Key Accountabilities

Industrial Relations.

  • Investigate and resolve complex or critical industrial relations issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Manage any grievances, disputes and disciplinary cases towards a prompt and amicable resolution.
  • Management of employment litigation, appointment and instruction to external counsel, providing an assessment of the strength of cases, documentation and ensuring the best case is put forward in all litigation, assessment on appeals and reviews where applicable.
  • Management of reporting to authorities and statutory bodies in cases of redundancies and other cases which require statutory reporting for employment cases.
  • Update the Management on material cases and providing relevant updates as and when requested/necessary.
  • Establish and maintaining a leadership team that is aware of the company's obligations and internal processes in handling misconduct and poor performance.
  • Act as liaison officer with relevant government bodies on all IR matters.

Union Management.

  • Manage the relationship with unions and ensuring that the company’s treatment of employees is consistent with its core business value and objectives.
  • Negotiate collective bargaining deals between union and management.

Compliance with Malaysian labour laws.

  • Ensure the company complies with all updated employment laws across the group e.g. on minimum wages, minimum benefits, and all statutory deductions.
  • Ensure the employment contracts are updated and standardised with risk-mitigating clauses to protect the company's interests and values.

Transformation & Employment Advisory.

  • Act as employment law specialist/subject matter expert in relation to transformation activities especially if involving workforce reduction.
  • Engage business heads and key stakeholders to provide input on employment laws and provide risk-mitigating alternatives/strategies

Qualifications, Skills & Knowledge

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource, Business Admin, Law, Psychology or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of Industrial Relations experience in managerial capacity.
