We are seeking a compassionate and skilled School Counsellor with experience in providing psychological support to students, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN). The role involves offering individual and group counselling, promoting mental health awareness, and collaborating with educators and families to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Responsibilities:
1. Individual Counselling and SEN Support
- Conduct confidential one-on-one counselling sessions with students, including those with SEN, addressing academic, emotional, or personal challenges.
- Utilize assessment tools to evaluate students' needs and develop personalized intervention plans, ensuring accommodations are aligned with Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Provide crisis intervention and support during critical incidents or emergencies, particularly for students with SEN.
2. Group Counselling and Workshops
- Facilitate group counselling sessions focusing on topics such as stress management, social skills development, and emotional regulation, tailoring sessions to meet the needs of students with SEN.
- Organize and conduct workshops for students on mental health awareness, resilience building, and strategies for managing learning differences.
3. Collaboration and Consultation
- Collaborate with teachers and learning support staff to implement strategies outlined in students' IEPs, ensuring psychological support complements educational goals.
- Provide consultation to teachers on classroom strategies and accommodations to support the social-emotional and academic development of students with SEN.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to discuss students' progress and provide strategies for supporting their child's emotional well-being at home.
4. Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of counselling sessions, assessments, and progress reports, adhering to confidentiality and professional standards.
- Prepare reports and participate in multidisciplinary meetings to discuss students' progress, recommend interventions, and ensure holistic support for students with SEN.
5. Professional Development and Advocacy
- Stay informed about best practices in school counselling, SEN support, and mental health interventions.
- Advocate for inclusive education practices and mental health awareness initiatives within the school community, promoting a supportive and nurturing environment for all students.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
- Certification or licensure as a School Counsellor (if required by local regulations).
- Experience in providing counselling services to children or adolescents, particularly those with SEN.
- Knowledge of psychological assessment tools, counselling techniques, and special education principles.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for building trust with students, parents, and staff.
Preferred Skills:
- Training in cognitive-behavioural therapy, trauma-informed care, or other therapeutic approaches.
- Experience in crisis intervention and supporting students in distress, including those with SEN.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team to support diverse student needs.
- Native English speaker preferred
