About the role
The Head of Financial Accounting & Treasury, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), plays a pivotal role in overseeing all aspects of financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely submission of financial statements. This role will lead the financial reporting team, manage external audits, and ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal policies.
The position plays a critical role in delivering reliable financial information to support strategic decision-making. Additionally, the Head of Financial Accounting & Treasury will oversee the Treasury function, ensuring effective cash flow management, liquidity planning, and compliance with treasury policies.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Monthly Financial Close and Financial Reporting
- Oversee and manage the monthly financial close process, ensuring timely closing and accurate reporting of financial accounts.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and other countries’ relevant accounting standards.
- Ensure timely submission of statutory financial reports and filings to regulatory authorities.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures in compliance with financial reporting standards.
- Coordinate with external auditors and manage the year-end audit process.
- Ensure accuracy and consistency of financial information across all reporting platforms.
2. Treasury Management
- Oversee daily cash flow management and forecasting to ensure sufficient liquidity.
- Develop and implement treasury policies and procedures.
- Manage relationships with banks and financial institutions.
- Ensure compliance with loan covenants and banking regulations.
- Support the CFO in developing funding strategies and investment plans.
3. Internal Controls & Governance
- Design and implement internal controls over financial reporting processes.
- Review financial policies and recommend improvements to enhance compliance and efficiency.
- Ensure adherence to internal control procedures and regulatory requirements.
4. Tax & Regulatory Compliance
- Oversee tax reporting, including corporate income tax, sales & service tax, and withholding tax.
- Ensure compliance with all tax regulations and liaise with tax advisors as needed.
- Manage tax audits and support tax planning initiatives.
- Manage reporting requirements to regulatory bodies; e.g. Bank Negara Malaysia.
5. Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and mentor the financial reporting team, providing guidance on technical accounting matters.
- Conduct performance evaluations and identify training and development opportunities.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
6. Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including FP&A, Management Accounting Team and other Cross Functional Teams to provide financial insights.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory authorities.
- Present financial information to senior management as required.
About you
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional qualification (CPA, ACCA, CA, or equivalent) is required.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in financial reporting, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial role.
- In-depth knowledge of IFRS/GAAP and local tax regulations.
- Experience in managing external audits and dealing with regulatory authorities.
- Experience in treasury management and cash flow forecasting.
- Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in the pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or R&D sectors.
- Familiarity with SAP ERP system.
- Experience in implementing SAP is an advantage.
- Knowledge of integrated reporting and sustainability reporting.
